Description

Daubert Chemical Company is seeking a senior level Production & Process Engineer at its specialty chemical production plant at 4700 S. Central in Forest View, IL. The successful candidate will be a degreed engineer with at least 7 years in process and/or manufacturing engineering operations plus extensive project management experience. Planning and coordinating technical engineering initiatives and completing projects within budget and according to schedule. Upholds project standards by researching compliance regulations and developing project implementation plans. Fine tunes manufacturing processes by researching, designing, modifying and testing manufacturing methods and equipment. Manages manufacturing optimization, improvement, and documentation of existing manufacturing processes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, but not limited to:

  • Develops projects to improve the site’s capabilities and improve the facility infrastructure. Demonstrates excellent project management and supervision abilities, including organizational, time management, leadership, and decision-making skills.
  • Develops specifications for the project’s needed equipment.
  • Develops bid packages, solicits bids, selects and supervises contractors.

Ensures the project’s compliance with the applicable codes, practices, policies, performance standards, and specifications.

- Maintains project schedule by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities, and resolving problems.
- Controls costs by tracking and approving expenditures, and closely supervising contractor work. Reports on adherence to budget to management and Accounting.
Understand and meet all relevant OSHA and EPA requirements. Enforce company rules, safety procedures, and processes.

- Tracks the project’s metrics and collects data to demonstrate successful completion of project goals.
- Supports company reputation by complying with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Reviews and interprets calculations, drawings, manuals, and other technical documents related to plant equipment.
Identifies opportunities by speaking with operators and production management, presents recommendations, and implements approved changes to improve manufacturing processes to reduce costs, remove bottlenecks, and improve cycle times. Meet with plant personnel and chemists to review project design to ensure it meets all internal requirements.

Applies continuous improvement methods such as lean manufacturing and root cause analysis to enhance quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. Participates in root cause investigations and corrective action development.

- Troubleshoots new and existing product problems involving materials or processes.
- Acts as interim production supervisor and directly supports plant operations as needed.
Demonstrates leadership in the plant by upholding and supporting company rules and regulations.

- Completes all project related documents, such as accounting paperwork, training instructions, and maintenance documents on time; is responsive and collaborative with internal department’s procedures.
- Conduct all startup activities such as pre-startup safety review, commissioning, training (either be in person or by assignment in LMS), and documentation before equipment goes into service.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field is required; chemical engineering is preferred; 7 or more years practical experience of process and/or manufacturing engineering is required. Chemical (reactive chemistry) plant manufacturing is highly preferred.
  • Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop, evaluate, and implement solutions.
  • Excellent computer literacy and competency using MS Office, including intermediate/advanced excel; project management software, SCADA, etc.
  • Demonstrated excellent project management and supervision abilities, including organizational, time management, leadership, and solid decision-making skills. Capable of managing multiple projects.
  • Experience in effectively managing outside contractors.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as interpersonal, analytical and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes, policies, standards, and best practices.
  • Proven team player skills with ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships.
  • High degree of professional integrity and ethics.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of production processes, lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other techniques for maximizing effective manufacturing and continuous improvement.
