As a senior technical expert within Moderna’s enterprise technology organization, you will play a critical role in shaping and supporting the global tax technology landscape across SAP S/4HANA. This position combines deep SAP tax expertise with advanced Vertex capabilities to deliver scalable, compliant, and efficient tax solutions that support Moderna’s rapidly expanding global operations. Working across global business functions, you will serve as the trusted authority for tax determination, compliance, reporting, and integration, ensuring tax processes are seamlessly embedded across finance and supply chain operations. You will partner closely with Tax, Finance, Digital, and business stakeholders to translate evolving regulatory requirements into robust system solutions while driving innovation through automation, AI-enabled capabilities, and modern digital technologies. Here's What You'll Do: Serve as the SAP and Vertex Subject Matter Expert (SME) for global tax processes across Moderna’s enterprise landscape. Design, configure, support, and optimize SAP tax procedures, condition techniques, tax codes, and tax determination logic within SAP S/4HANA. Design, implement, and maintain Vertex O-Series integrations, ensuring accurate tax calculation, jurisdiction determination, and reporting consistency. Support global indirect tax requirements including: US Sales & Use Tax European Union VAT APAC GST Regional tax compliance models and statutory requirements Support direct tax and withholding tax processes, including integration with finance processes and reporting structures. Ensure seamless tax integration across key business processes including: Order-to-Cash (O2C) Procure-to-Pay (P2P) Source-to-Pay (STP) Record-to-Report (RTR) Billing Procurement Intercompany transactions General Ledger postings Support and enhance SAP Document & Reporting Compliance (DRC) solutions and Continuous Transaction Controls (CTC) capabilities. Collaborate with global tax teams to interpret regulatory requirements and translate them into scalable system configurations and technical solutions. Support and maintain tax-relevant master data, including customer, vendor, material, and tax classification data structures. Drive accurate tax reporting and reconciliation leveraging SAP DRC, Vertex solutions, and business intelligence platforms. Lead and support testing activities across UNIT, SIT, and UAT cycles, ensuring successful deployments and ongoing production support. Drive process automation and operational efficiency through OCR, RPA, advanced analytics, and emerging Generative AI and AI-enabled capabilities. Ensure strong governance through SOX compliance, audit readiness, controls management, and comprehensive process documentation. Act as a hands-on technical expert, troubleshooting complex tax configuration, integration, and compliance challenges across global regions. Support a global tax technology footprint spanning the United States, Europe, and APAC, enabling scalable growth and regulatory compliance across Moderna’s international operations.
