Description

The Senior Scientific Writer plays a critical role in shaping how the world understands and engages with the groundbreaking research at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. This position is responsible for developing compelling scientific content that communicates the breadth and depth of our basic science and clinical research, supporting recruitment of top scientific talent, and enhancing the global reputation of St. Jude.
As a Senior Scientific Writer, you will lead the creation of new web content and provide strategic input on visual media projects, including videos, illustrations, and graphics. You will collaborate closely with scientists, clinicians, and creative teams to craft accurate, engaging, and persuasive content. Core responsibilities include content strategy, literature review, synthesizing complex scientific findings, grant writing, and revising and editing materials for diverse audiences

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English, Biomedical sciences or related field required.
  • Master’s degree OR PhD preferred.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum Requirement: 4+ years of experience in communications, journalism, English, Biomedical sciences or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in advertising or marketing, social media, journalism, and writing in life sciences or healthcare environment.
  • Some experience stakeholder management preferred.
  • Proven performance in earlier role/comparable role.
  • AI and Pediatric experience preferred.
  • Grant writing experience preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as one of the institution’s primary points of contact for science- and hospital-related news and information for internal and external distribution.
  • Review, analyze, audit and organize existing content to ensure quality and accuracy in all projects as well as compliance with organizational standards and supports business objectives.
  • Interview families and patients, medical and research staff, subject matter experts and others on a variety of topics and translate that information into captivating and concrete storytelling.
  • Write customized content elements for various stakeholder groups and distribution channels (e.g., news stories, feature stories, photo captions, presentations, social media messages, blog posts, etc.)
  • Keep track of the project activities and ensure alignment with the quality guidelines, project timelines and objectives.
  • Provide guidance, assistance, and mentoring support to less experienced colleagues on routine processes and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
