Main Purpose of the Role
Serves as a technical expert and innovation lead for embedded firmware, software, and mobile applications. This individual brings high-level knowledge, extensive real-world experience, and strong project management expertise to lead product definition, system architecture, detailed system design, systems integration, testing and simulation, risk analysis, and design evaluation efforts with a primary focus on FW, SFW and mobile applications for electro-mechanical medical devices. Given the expertise and experience of this individual, the role engages with cross-functional teams across Bioventus to share technical perspective & insight, present exploratory research activities, architect multi-year product roadmaps, and drive the development of new technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Performs all aspects of SFW, FW, and Mobile Application development for medical devices ensuring design controls are being followed with a high level of autonomy.
2. Architects, designs, and integrates secure wireless communication hardware, software, and protocols into next generation products.
3. Authors technical reports, invention disclosures, executive-level presentations, technology roadmaps, and production drawings.
4. Serves as the SFW/FW SME for medical device development.
5. Mentors junior engineers and technical leaders across the organization.
6. Holds oneself and others accountable to conduct business in a manner compliant with Bioventus’ Code of Compliance and Ethics, policies and procedures and internal controls applicable to their role.
7. Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, technology, engineering, or math and a minimum of 8 years of experience related to the architecture, design, test, and debugging of electromechanical devices.
  • Experience in the development of active implantable medical devices highly desired.
  • Strong experience with modeling software architectures and expert fluency in at least two programming languages: Assembly, C, C++, C#, .NET, Fortran, VB, Perl, PHP, Python, R, TCL, Java, JavaScript, Objective-C, MatLab, VHDL..
  • Strong technical writing, presentation, and communication skills with demonstrated ability to inform, engage, and influence stakeholders.
  • Expertise in medical device regulations and standards including IEC60601-1, IEC60601-1-2, IEC62133, IEC62304, and ISO14971.
