The Opportunity This position works out of our Corporate Headquarters in Abbott Park, IL, within the GES General Engineering Services division. Are you tired of working nights, weekends, and holidays? This role follows a structured Monday–Friday, 5:30 a.m.–2:00 p.m. schedule, with occasional opportunities for weekend work as business needs dictate. If you’re interested in working with a group of talented and driven individuals in a strong team environment, this is the place for you. This position supports all phases of culinary operations for Abbott’s food service division and adheres to all guidelines, health department regulations, and Abbott company policies. As the Sr. Sous Chef, you contribute to the overall success of the corporate dining service program for the global headquarters of Abbott Laboratories. Responsibilities include taking direction from the AP6D senior chef, senior sous chef, and food service management; daily hands‑on involvement in menu item creation; product ordering; and maintaining appropriate inventory par levels. You will follow safety and sanitation protocols, provide exceptional customer service to Abbott employees and guests, minimize waste, and help improve efficiencies throughout the operation. What You’ll Work On Knowledge of large‑volume cooking and batch preparation processes Assist in coordinating and participating in the preparation and cooking of various menu items Assist with planning and creating daily menus, and updating standardized recipe books Aid in managing costs and controlling expenditures Follow and write standardized recipes in large‑volume format Demonstrate basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and online vendor ordering portals Ensure food products and presentations are of the highest quality and prepared in a timely manner Maintain adherence to standards, recipes, and presentation specifications Monitor holding and storage operations, stocking, and food rotation to ensure all food service sanitation standards are met Demonstrate adaptability, friendliness, and effective teamwork Requirements Maintain and utilize provided PPE and safety equipment Use knives and machinery that contain sharp components Stand and walk for long periods during most of the shift Move safely throughout all BOH and FOH areas Work in environments with variable noise levels, ventilation, smoke, and extreme temperatures Demonstrate basic English reading and writing skills Effectively multitask Frequently reach, feel, bend, stoop, and carry Lift and carry up to 50 lbs Work in both warm and cool environments, indoors and outdoors Required Qualifications 4 years of related culinary experience Experience in restaurants, hotels, corporate dining, education, military, healthcare, and/or related food service operations Knowledge of food and industry trends with a focus on quality, production, sanitation, safety, food cost control, and presentation ServSafe or Department of Health Manager Certification preferred ServSafe Allergen Awareness Certification preferred Associate degree in culinary arts preferred Education Level: High school diploma or GED Learn more about our health and wellness benefits, which provide the security to help you and your family live full lives: www.abbottbenefits.com Follow your career aspirations to Abbott for diverse opportunities with a company that can help you build your future and live your best life.
