Description The Staff Accountant is responsible for a variety of tasks within the Accounting and Finance department, including revenue recognition, maintaining financial reports, records, and general ledgers; preparing and analyzing budget and projections as well as all other general accounting duties. This position will work closely with the Divisional Controller, Office Managers and various operations personnel. This position reports to the Divisional Controller. Staff Accountant Responsibilities Initial preparation of monthly financial statements, including Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and Statement of Cash Flows for Sr Management review Ensure that all accounts are timely and accurately reconciled to the General Ledger Prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations Assist in preparing annual farm field costing Prepare monthly farm and collection activity WIP reconciliations and confirm balances are appropriate based on uncleaned seed balances Take ownership of the month end closing process, and its timely completion for all divisions Maintain Fixed Asset list and maintain records of acquisitions and disposals Prepare and file sales tax returns in all applicable states Ongoing review of company accounting policies and procedures with recommended improvements Ensure all Company accounting and finance policies and procedures are adhered to. Ensure that all accounting functions are completed timely allowing for financial statement completion in alignment with the published financial close calendar. Prepare documentation for external auditors and work closely with them for yearend audits Completion of any other projects requested by Sr Management Requirements Skill Requirements: Strong understanding of GAAP. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and time management skills. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite with an emphasis in Excel. Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
