Ground Control Business Management, a subsidiary of NFP, is seeking a Sr. Staff Accountant (Tax).
A Senior Staff Accountant (Tax), or Tax CPA, is a finance professional responsible for helping individuals and organizations file their taxes appropriately while following legal guidelines and obtaining the maximum possible tax return. Their duties include collecting tax forms and tracking client paperwork, identifying potential tax credits and producing tax reports. As well, the Senior Tax Accountant plays a managerial role where he/she oversees the activities of staff tax accountants. In this position, he/she supervises the preparation of tax returns, reviews, compilations and reviews tax and other tasks performed by staff to ensure correctness and completeness.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND/OR ABILITIES:

  • Advanced technical ability; resolves complex accounting and tax issues, including more advanced research
  • Exhibits leadership ability and able to take lead on projects
  • Timely reviews the work of seniors and staff accountants
  • Ability to manage the workflow of the staff and takes responsibility in resolving conflicting priorities
  • Able to use experience to help develop and streamline departmental procedures and workflow as well as measure results
  • Continuously strives to improve profitability and guides others toward improvement in this area
  • Involved in special projects/client presentations (Can facilitate and run client meetings in absence of a manager/partner)
  • Assists with daily administrative and operational procedures, as identified
  • Ability to review compiled financial statements and propose meaningful adjustments
  • Ability to work with the Client Service team on clients’ day-to-day needs (refinance applications, etc.)
  • Prepare and supervise various cash management/investment reports
  • Makes effective use of time and encourages this with co-workers
  • Understands and enforces concepts of firm profitability and target hours for tasks
  • Working toward passing the California CPA exam
  • Experience working in a team environment

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • 3-5 years of CPA Firm experience
  • Strong Tax and/or accounting knowledge
  • Bachelor’s degree
Responsibilities
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in tax
  • Basic research ability
  • Prepare complex returns (multi-state, elections, etc.)
  • Able to recognize complex tax matters & issues
  • Involved in special projects (IRS exams, correspondence with government agencies, etc.)
  • Comfortable taking a lead role in addressing various accounting and tax related tasks and proposing resolutions to issues
  • Prepare and complete various cash management and investment reports with a greater degree of independence
  • Prepare tax provisions schedules, returns, payments, reports and maintain a company’s tax database
  • Find tax solutions to complicated tax issues or errors from incorrect tax filings
  • Identify legal tax savings and recommend ways to improve profits
  • Make sure that clients comply with federal, state and local tax regulations
  • Advise management about the impact of tax liabilities and corporate strategies or new tax laws
  • Coordinate workflow with managers and other tax staff
  • Accurately prepare quarterly and annual tax reports
  • Prepare and or analyze financial statements
  • Keep up-to-date with tax changes and industry trends by participating in educational opportunities, participating in professional organizations, keeping up with professional networks and reading professional publications,
