Location: Greater Toronto Area

About the Position
Are you a skilled reporter with a passion for personal finance? Do you thrive in a fast-paced news environment and love helping readers make sense of complex financial topics? If so, this is the role for you.
We are seeking a Weekend Reporter to join our Editorial team. Reporting to the Deputy Editor, you’ll work independently to produce timely, accurate, and engaging news content on personal finance topics such as home buying, retirement, investing, and insurance. You’ll also be responsible for uploading content into our Content Management System and syndicating stories to partners like Yahoo Finance, MSN News, and Apple News.

What You’ll Do

  • Craft 1.5–2 news or feature articles per day that simplify complex financial topics for a broad audience.
  • Review and edit articles for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style, ensuring high accuracy.
  • Monitor news outlets, financial reports, and social media platforms to identify trending stories.
  • Analyze performance metrics to refine editorial strategy in consultation with senior editors.
  • Syndicate content to external partners independently using the Content Management System.
  • Conduct thorough research and interviews with subject matter experts to ensure accuracy and credibility.
  • Contribute to multimedia projects and adapt local news stories for broader audiences.Participate in editorial meetings, pitching innovative and well-researched story ideas.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3–5 years’ journalism experience, ideally with personal finance content experience.
  • Proficiency with AP style and editorial standards.
  • Proven writing and editing skills with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong instincts for story flow and audience engagement.
  • Ability to work independently under tight deadlines, including weekends.
  • Experience with Content Management Systems.
  • Knowledge of SEO strategies, affiliate marketing, and multimedia content is an asset.
  • High interest in personal finance topics and emerging digital trends.
