Salary Range: 80,000 – 90,000 USD Annually
The referenced salary range is based on the Company’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Total compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level.
Position Summary: This is a newly created position with a US group which has recently merged with a UK private equity backed group. Reporting to the Assistant Controller in the US and the Head of Tax in the UK, this is an exciting time to join a growing business and develop the new in-house US tax function for the enlarged group. The Senior Tax Accountant will initially be responsible for managing and developing the group’s US sales tax function, leading the transition from external service providers, so US sales tax experience is key for success in the role. The Senior Tax Accountant will also work with the Head of Tax and outside service providers on corporate income taxes, such as annual filings and quarterly estimate calculations. Development of the US tax function and processes, together with the Head of Tax and covering any and all areas of US tax, is also a key component of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Manage monthly US sales tax reporting process, including transition from external service provider. Likely to also include management of more junior offshore staff in due course.
  • Complete required tax reporting in a timely manner, including sales and use tax, GST, HST, QST and VAT filings.
  • Update sales tax databases and monitor for creation of any new sales tax nexus. This will include periodically auditing to ensure the proper sales tax is being charged and all exemption certificates are being collected and properly filed.
  • Coordinate US & international corporate tax filings and audits with outside tax specialists and Head of Tax.
  • Coordinate and negotiate tax compliance requirements with tax authorities.
  • Demonstrate effective research and problem-solving skills.
  • GAAP balance sheet management of tax asset and liability accounts.
  • Journal entry preparation as needed for the GAAP financial close, as well as book-tax differences.

Qualifications and experience

  • 4+ years of broad based tax compliance and research experience, covering sales tax in particular.
  • Degree in accounting.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of tax regulation and tax code.
  • International VAT/GST tax knowledge preferred.
  • Self-starter who is able to work as part of a geographically diverse team.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience working with US tax legislation and capability of application in new situations.
  • Comfortable with multiple systems environment.
  • Attention to detail and dedication to quality.
  • Responsive team player with ability to quickly prioritize among numerous pressing tasks.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong work paper techniques.
  • Detail oriented, excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex tax issues in plain language.
  • Strong computer literacy (i.e. Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint; Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains a plus).
