Job Description We are seeking a Sr. Technologist, SSD System Design Engineer to join our engineering team in Milpitas, United States. In this role, you will define and architect advanced Solid State Drive (SSD) systems, driving innovation in storage technology. You will be responsible for architecting high-performance storage solutions, optimizing system-level performance, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver cutting-edge products to market. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Define and architect SSD system architectures, including controller design, firmware integration, and hardware-software interfaces Develop and maintain comprehensive architectural specifications, system-level use cases, and design documentation for SSD systems and subsystems Engage with standards bodies to understand future trends and pain points as well as drive features and requirements that align with current development plans Collaborate with firmware, hardware, and validation teams to ensure seamless system integration and functionality Evaluate emerging technologies, including NAND flash memory types and advanced protocols, to enhance product capabilities Troubleshoot complex system-level issues and implement effective solutions through analytical problem-solving Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of design methodologies and best practices Drive technical discussions with customers and stakeholders to understand requirements and provide expert guidance Qualifications Required: 15+ years of professional experience in SSD/storage system design, semiconductor design, or related fields Deep expertise in SSD architecture, including controller design, NAND flash memory interfaces, and system-level optimization Strong knowledge of storage protocols (NVMe, PCIe, etc.) and specifications (OCP, SNIA SFF, etc.) and their implementation in SSD systems Customer-facing and industry-facing technical communication experience Awareness of hardware design tools, simulation software, and debugging methodologies Demonstrated experience with firmware-hardware integration and system validation Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate complex technical concepts clearly Experience with technical documentation, design specifications, and design review processes Preferred: Experience with NAND flash technology, including TLC, QLC, and emerging memory types Knowledge of signal integrity challenges, power management techniques and thermal analysis in storage systems Familiarity with advanced simulation and modeling tools for system-level performance prediction Background in signal integrity analysis and high-speed interface design Understanding of manufacturing processes and design-for-manufacturability (DFM) principles Additional Information Sandisk is committed to providing equal opportunities to all applicants and employees and will not discriminate against any applicant or employee based on their race, color, ancestry, religion (including religious dress and grooming standards), sex (including pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions, breastfeeding or related medical conditions), gender (including a person’s gender identity, gender expression, and gender-related appearance and behavior, whether or not stereotypically associated with the person’s assigned sex at birth), age, national origin, sexual orientation, medical condition, marital status (including domestic partnership status), physical disability, mental disability, medical condition, genetic information, protected medical and family care leave, Civil Air Patrol status, military and veteran status, or other legally protected characteristics.
