Description POSITION SUMMARY: Provides tool and die support to the engineering laboratory and/or plant. Set up and operates all the basic and many specialized machine tools, such as lathes, drill presses, milling machines, precision grinders as well as micrometers, and other precision measuring instruments. Reviews blueprints and written specifications as well as reverse engineers existing tools and fixtures. Conducts tests to determine whether equipment and/or procedures are operating as expected. Works under minimal supervision and is multi-task oriented. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Sets up and operate all the basic and many specialized machine tools, such as lathes, drill presses, milling machines, precision grinders, micrometers, and other precision measuring instruments (CMM). 2. Understands machine functions, metal properties, and mathematics calculations to handle a metalworking project from planning and fabrication through assembly, inspection, and testing. 3. Reviews blueprints and written specifications as well as reverse engineers existing tools and fixtures. 4. Select the most appropriate machines, tools, and materials for the job. 5. Plans the sequence of machining operations and hold precision tolerances within 0.0001”. 6. Conducts tests to determine whether equipment and/or procedures are operating as expected. 7. Monitors and adhere to the tooling/process control standards as established in the organization including following all documentation procedures. 8. Performs project work for continuous improvement as well as assist in laboratory and plant support of equipment. 9. Maintains a safe and clean work environment, to include cleaning of tools, equipment, and parts. Performs other job-related duties as assigned Requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or equivalent, minimum of five (5) years directly related experience in this position. Must have satisfactorily completed an accredited school on Machining and Machine Shop Practices or have the experience to demonstrate acceptable skills. Must be proficient in all measuring instruments used in the shop. *Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted. WORK ENVIRONMENT / CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to mechanical, electrical, or chemical processes requiring the use of protective eyewear. Employees will work in a shop environment, will occasionally be required to work weekends, holidays, and be on call. These are considered essential duties and are illustrative of those job tasks, which are fundamental. Employees may be required to perform additional related duties as may be assigned by management.
