Zurich Canada is currently looking for an experienced underwriter at the Senior Underwriter, Underwriting Specialist or AVP level, for our , National Accounts Management Liability team to demonstrate specialized knowledge and expertise in products and industry.
Reporting to the Underwriting Manager, National Accounts, you will underwrite and analyze new and renewal business, focusing on highly complex assignments. The individual will demonstrate expertise in products and industry, develop and maintain relationships with brokers to support business retention and acquisition, identify growth opportunities, and negotiate terms and conditions. The role also entails providing technical guidance and training to lower-level underwriters, proactively seeking new and renewal account opportunities, and participating in sales team meetings.

What you will do

  • Underwrite and analyze new and renewal business within delegated authority levels for highly complex assignments.
  • Demonstrate expertise in products and industry.
  • Administer and monitor underwriting rules, guidelines, insurance laws, regulations, and rating manuals.
  • Work at the highest authority limits on assignments with technical complexity and coordination.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents & brokers) to support business retention and acquisition.
  • Support the sales culture by being a Help Point for, brokers, and customers.
  • More experienced underwriters are expected to be able to contribute to proposition development and provide technical guidance, assistance, and training to lower-level underwriters.
  • Seek renewal and new account opportunities proactively and develop a healthy pipeline of new opportunities
  • Conduct detailed opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify growth opportunities.
  • Qualify accounts to align with the organization’s appetite and sound business opportunities.
  • Make purposeful and planned agent / broker / customer and on-site calls.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions and close deals.
  • Cross-sell other lines of business to increase product density.
  • Participate in Sales Team meetings related to assigned brokers and/or territory.
  • Engage in the target account process, managing a qualified list of opportunities 90 to 120 days before the effective date.
  • Update required systems with details of broker / client visits and account status within the specified time frame.
  • Serve as the key contact for assigned target accounts.
  • Develop strong broker and client networks related to industries underwritten by the Business Unit.
  • Calculate target prices accurately using underwriting tools.
  • Handle and review large / complex underwriting submissions and annual reviews.
  • Benchmark and establish best practices.
  • Act as a mentor.

Job Qualifications - What you bring to the table

Required:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in Management Liability Underwriting or Market Facing area

OR

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area

OR

  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 5 or more years of experience in the Management Liability Underwriting or Market Facing area.

OR

  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 12 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
