Spire Cardiff Hospital | Pontprennau, Cardiff | Sterile Services Assistant | Part Time (20 hours per week) At Spire Cardiff Hospital, our Sterile Services Department is essential to the smooth and safe delivery of surgical care. As an SSD Assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring every instrument used in theatre is clean, safe, and ready for use. Your work directly impacts patient outcomes, supporting clinical teams by maintaining the highest standards of safety and precision. This is a hands-on, physically active role where attention to detail and a commitment to quality make a real difference every day. This Sterile Services Assistant role is ideal for candidates with experience in decontamination or hospital sterile services. Duties and Responsibilities: * Clean, disinfect, sterilise, and pack theatre instruments and equipment * Check instrument trays pre- and post-decontamination to ensure accuracy * Prepare linen, consumables, and surgical sets for sterilisation * Maintain accurate records using instrument tracking systems * Monitor equipment performance and report repair requirements * Follow infection prevention and control policies at all times * Undertake manual handling tasks, including lifting and moving equipment safely Who we’re looking for: * Certificate or NVQ Level 3 in Decontamination (desirable) * Self-motivated, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team * Awareness of infection control, microbiology, and aseptic techniques * Understanding of SSD processes, machinery, and surgical instruments * Good English communication skills (equivalent to IELTS 7.0) * Comfortable working in a physically demanding environment Contract Type: Permanent Working Hours: Part Time – 20 hours per week This role will be worked across Monday to Saturday, between 07:30 and 20:00.
