The Youth Care Worker/Security Monitor will be maintaining a safe and secure environment for clients, staff, and property. This position is responsible for controlling facility access, actively monitoring premises through surveillance systems and physical patrols, and promptly reporting any safety or security concerns to Shift Lead. The Security Monitor also assists in incident investigations by providing basic technical support and retrieving surveillance footage as needed. This role requires strong situational awareness, discretion, and a commitment to upholding safety protocols in alignment with trauma-informed care practices. While bearing the Youth Care Worker title, this role serves strictly in a security capacity and is not counted in the client-to-staff ratio, nor is it responsible for daily direct care or case management of clients. This position also supports other departments during critical operations such as headcounts or lockdowns but does not participate in routine client engagement unless an emergency dictates intervention. The Youth Care Worker/Security Monitor position requires flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and may be placed on-call based on operational needs. The Security Monitor must be available to respond to emergencies or critical incidents outside of regularly scheduled hours. Regular shift assignments may include overnight or rotating shifts to ensure 24/7 security coverage. PRINCIPAL DUTIES Accurately records all instances of clients exiting the facility by documenting the date and time of departure, names of transporting staff, vehicle identification number, destination, and the client-to-staff ratio within the vehicle. Ensures this information is logged in accordance with agency policies and reporting requirements. Maintains a comprehensive and up-to-date log of all external individuals entering the premises, including vendors, service providers, legal representatives, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and U.S. Border Patrol personnel. Verifies credentials and purpose of visit to ensure compliance with security protocols. Oversees inventory control for key security and communication equipment, including two-way radios, mobile workstation units, and company-assigned vehicles. Conducts routine inspections to verify operational status and reports any discrepancies or maintenance needs. Manages the assigned location main gate access point by utilizing automated gate systems and remote surveillance tools. Verifies authorization prior to granting entry and maintains records of all incoming and outgoing traffic to ensure secure perimeter control. Provides continuous oversight of the assigned location surveillance system to monitor all activity within and around the premises. Immediately reports unusual behavior, safety concerns, or unauthorized movement to appropriate department leads for prompt action. Keeps detailed records of all fire safety equipment including locations and inspection dates of fire extinguishers and posted evacuation routes. Assists with fire drills and emergency preparedness procedures to ensure compliance with local fire safety regulations. Observes and reports on staff conduct to ensure adherence to facility rules and ethical standards. Monitors for possession of contraband or mishandling of property and escalates concerns to the Shift Lead or designated compliance personnel. Conducts scheduled and unscheduled perimeter inspections throughout the shift to identify security vulnerabilities, unauthorized access points, or environmental hazards. Completes and submits inspection reports as required. Collaborates with Youth Care Workers, Medical, Case Management, and Clinical teams by assisting with client headcounts and location tracking. Operates from the central control hub to coordinate communication and ensure real-time location data is accessible. Maintain confidentiality and continue ongoing training compliance following state regulation, funder, agency, and program requirements. Attend all mandatory meetings and required training to maintain full agency, funder, and licensure compliance. Assist in distributing information to other staff regarding training, meetings, and communications. Performs other job-related tasks and responsibilities assigned by supervisors to support the overall safety, security, and operations of the assigned location. Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High School diploma or GED One (1) year employment experience in the child welfare field working with children and/or adolescents in a social service setting Bilingual in English and Spanish Valid Texas Driver’s License SKILLS REQUIREMENTS Familiarity with video surveillance systems and basic tech troubleshooting. Strong communication and observational skills. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and act swiftly during emergencies. Ability to walk, stand, or sit for extended periods. Must be able to respond quickly to alarms, emergencies, and client movement. Ability to safely drive and transport clients in agency vehicles. Ability to appropriately handle and maintain confidential information.
