Position Summary: Serve as a key financial steward for The Family Place by managing grant accounting, financial reconciliations, and reporting that ensure our mission-critical programs stay funded and compliant. This role combines technical accounting expertise with a mission-driven purpose. You'll oversee day-to-day grant activities, monitor budgets against actual expenditures, project future funding needs, and ensure accurate and timely grant billing and reporting in full compliance with funder requirements. Lead essential operational accounting functions, including month-end and year-end closes, account reconciliations, and audit support, all while safeguarding the financial integrity that allows us to serve survivors of domestic violence every single day. Key Responsibilities: Grant Management & Compliance Monitor grant budgets versus actual expenditures and project future spending needs to ensure optimal fund utilization. Prepare accurate and timely grant billing and reporting in full compliance with funder requirements. Maintain detailed grant documentation to support compliance audits and funder inquiries Financial Operations & Reconciliations Lead month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of all financial reporting. Reconcile bank accounts, investment portfolio accounts, and related financial statements. Prepare and verify journal entries for accounts receivable, grants receivable, prepaid expenses, pledges, non-government grants, and accrued liabilities. Record, maintain, and reconcile the agency's fixed asset activities and depreciation schedules to ensure accurate accounting. Ensure all account reconciliations are timely, well-documented, and audit-ready. Audit Support & Compliance Coordinate the timely completion of audit schedules and provide comprehensive support during year-end audits. Maintain organized documentation and supporting schedules to facilitate external audit processes. Respond to auditor inquiries and ensure all findings are addressed promptly. Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with the Development Team to reconcile accounting software with the fundraising database monthly. Provide technical advice, assistance, and cross-training to other accounting personnel as needed. Serve as backup for accounts payable processing to ensure continuity of operations. Continuous Improvement & Professional Development Attend ongoing training sessions to stay current on accounting standards, grant compliance, and nonprofit financial management. Participate in employee meetings and contribute to departmental goals. Prepare ad hoc reports and complete special projects as assigned. Qualifications Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field. Minimum of 15 credit hours in accounting. Three or more years of accounting experience. Aptitude to work with a $17 million budget. Nonprofit experience preferred, but not required. Licenses or Certifications: Valid Texas Driver’s License Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of audit and generally accepted accounting practices and principles. Knowledge of intermediate to advanced functionality of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook) Knowledge of grant accounting Knowledge of fund accounting Skilled at maintaining accurate financial records and preparing clear and accurate reports for informational, audit, and operational use. Skilled at handling shifting priorities in a deadline-driven environment. Ability to be attentive to detail and produce high-quality work products Ability to prepare financial and/or auditor statements, schedules, and reports. Ability to interpret, apply, and explain complex laws, codes, and regulations. Ability to review and verify the accuracy of data. Ability to make sound, independent judgments within established policies and procedures. Ability to organize own work, set priorities, and meet critical deadlines. Ability to communicate with and interact effectively with co-workers, managers, and other stakeholders sufficient to convey information and to receive work direction. Mental and Physical Duties: Duties are usually performed while sitting, with occasional periods of standing or walking. Working Conditions: Duties are usually performed seated.
