Position: Staff Accountant
Experience Level: 1-3 years’ direct accounting experience preferred
Position Summary: We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Staff Accountant to support the financial operations of a vertically integrated cannabis company. This role is responsible for daily accounting activities, month-end close, inventory reconciliation, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, including IRC 280E.
The ideal candidate is self-motivated with strong attention to detail. Experience in manufacturing, cost accounting, or the cannabis industry is preferred but not required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and record journal entries, accruals, and period-end adjustments
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts (cash, inventory, A/P, intercompany transactions)
  • Track and reconcile inventory across cultivation, production, and retail operations
  • Assist in monthly COGS calculations, including change-in-inventory and labor allocations
  • Support 280E tax compliance, including cost classification and documentation
  • Process vendor invoices, manage A/P aging, and assist with A/R collections
  • Perform bank reconciliations and cash management reporting
  • Help maintain internal controls, document processes, and support audit readiness
  • Collaborate with operational teams to validate accounting inputs
  • Support ad hoc analysis, audits, and special projects

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or associate degree in accounting is required
  • 1–3 years of direct accounting experience (inventory/manufacturing/cannabis industry a plus)
  • Proficient in QuickBooks, Excel, and cloud-based accounting platforms
  • Understanding of GAAP; familiarity with cost accounting and 280E is a plus
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work independently

Preferred Traits:

  • Experience working in a regulated industry (e.g., cannabis, pharma, food)
  • Cost accounting experience
  • Familiarity with METRC or other seed-to-sale inventory systems
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Collaborative team player with a process-improvement mindset
