Description
The Staff Accountant will be a key member of the Accounting Team, primarily supporting the accurate recording, reconciliation, and reporting of sales and assisting in other general ledger functions. We are looking for an individual who can create efficiencies and work independently, with a background in the restaurant industry, and a strong understanding of accounting principles. Core Responsibilities As a key contributor to the monthly close process, you will: ● Perform daily sales reconciliation between Oracle and POS including various sales channels. ● Prepare journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations with accuracy and attention to detail. ● Analyze general ledger accounts to identify and record necessary accruals, adjustments, and reclassifications. ● Collaborate with the management team to ensure timely completion of tasks aligned with weekly and period-end close schedules. ● Assist with financial statement inquiries at both the store and corporate levels. ● Support sales tax calculations and periodic sales tax returns. ● Compile schedules and supporting documentation for audit requests. ● Contribute to special projects, ad hoc analyses, and reporting initiatives in collaboration with the management team. Top 4 Outcomes in Year 1 Master Sweetgreen’s Accounting Practices and Tools ● Within the first three months, develop a solid understanding of Sweetgreen’s accounting practices and processes. ● Complete period-end tasks under the guidance of senior team members. ● Gain proficiency in key systems, including Oracle Fusion (ERP), Oracle EPM (Close Checklist, Balance Sheet Reconciliations), and Excel functions for analysis and account reconciliations. Develop Financial Expertise ● By six months, demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the Chart of Accounts and how accounts flow into financial statements. ● Independently complete most tasks, assisting the Accounting Managers with periodic and ad hoc projects as needed. Identify and Drive Process Improvements ● Leverage your foundational knowledge to enhance efficiency in existing processes. ● Propose and implement improvements in areas such as banking entries, sales tax, fixed assets, and balance sheet reconciliations. Become a Trusted Partner ● Establish yourself as a reliable resource for teammates and cross-functional partners. ● Represent the accounting team in meetings, articulating how the team can support new processes while ensuring the necessary inputs for accurate accounting. Skills Required ● Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. ● CPA or CPA track is preferred but not required. ● Demonstrated proficiency in Excel, including advanced functions, with the ability to quickly adapt to new software programs. ● Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively. ● Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work. ● Thrives in a collaborative team environment, assisting colleagues in troubleshooting issues and overcoming challenges. ● Willingness to dedicate the hours required to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, deadline-driven profession. ● Candidates must be available to work onsite in the Los Angeles office at least four days per week.
