Position Summary: The Staff Accountant I will support the finance and accounting team by maintaining financial records, preparing reports, and performing general accounting functions. This role requires a strong attention to detail, a commitment to accuracy, and an ability to work collaboratively within a team. Key Responsibilities: General Ledger Management: Prepare journal entries and maintain the general ledger. Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes. Reconcile balance sheet accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness. Sales & Use Tax Management: Prepare and maintain a schedule of dues dates for monthly, quarterly and annual tax filings and license renewals. Coordinate with external tax preparers to ensure timely and accurate filings. Manage and update tax portal login credentials and communicate changes as needed. Property Tax Management: Maintain a schedule of property tax filing deadlines. Prepare supporting documentation and file property tax returns where applicable. Accounts Payable & Receivable: Provide backup support for processing vendor invoices and payments as needed. Assist with reconciling AP and AR accounts during month-end close. Support resolution of discrepancies between purchase orders, invoices, and receipts. Financial Reporting: Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Prepare variance analysis and account reconciliations as needed. Generate ad hoc financial reports for management as requested. Bank Reconciliations: Perform monthly bank reconciliations and investigate discrepancies. Ensure all transactions are properly recorded and reconciled. Compliance and Auditing Support: Assist with internal and external audits by preparing required documentation. Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies. Ad Hoc Analysis and Projects: Participate in special projects aimed at improving accounting processes and systems. Conduct financial analyses to support business decisions. Qualifications Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 1–3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing or product-based environment. Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles. General knowledge of corporate tax processes and compliance, with the ability to coordinate and manage multi-state and federal tax activities in collaboration with external tax preparers. Experience with Avalara or similar tax automation software is a plus. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., NetSuite or similar ERP systems). Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite experience is a plus). CPA track or intent to pursue CPA certification. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
