POSITION SUMMARY:

The Staff Accountant I is an entry-level position responsible for supporting the daily accounting operations within the organization. This role assists with general ledger activities, account reconciliations, and financial reporting under the supervision of senior accounting staff. The Staff Accountant I ensures the accuracy and timeliness of financial data and contributes to the overall efficiency of the accounting function.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience (required)

EXPERIENCE:

  • 1–3 years of accounting or finance experience preferred
  • Familiarity with accounting principles and financial reporting

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Solid understanding of Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, v-lookups, formulas)
  • Experience with ERP systems is a plus
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and post routine journal entries to the general ledger.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations of key accounts, including bank accounts, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and accruals.
  • Assist with the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes by compiling financial data and documentation.
  • Support the preparation of internal and external financial reports in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • File state sales use tax returns and other state and federal compliance reports.
  • File compliance for company vehicles.
  • Assist in the analysis of monthly financial statements.
  • Assist with the annual administration of the employee stock ownership plan.
  • Assist in the preparation of audit schedules and respond to audit requests.
  • Contribute to completion of year-end audit and tax returns.
  • Participate in ongoing process improvement initiatives within the accounting department.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
