Selby Jennings is partnered with a leading Civil Engineering firm in Salt Lake City that is looking to expand their Finance & Operations team. They are currently looking to bring on a Staff Accountant to play a key role in a wide range of their critical accounting & financial management responsibilities. This award winning organization is rapidly growing based off their success & this role will provide the ability to quickly move through the ranks & this candidate will have a large amount of executive exposure.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline (Bachelor’s required; Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, ideally within a project-driven or client-service environment.
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and project-based accounting practices.
  • Proficiency in accounting platforms and strong Excel capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities with precision and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience mentoring or overseeing junior team members is a plus.
  • Background in industries such as consulting, design, legal, real estate, or construction is highly desirable.

Responsibilities
  • Generate and review client billing, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation.
  • Track project progress, scope changes, and billing milestones to support timely invoicing.
  • Develop and maintain project budgets and financial summaries.
  • Conduct reconciliations and deliver financial insights at the project level.
  • Monitor outstanding receivables and collaborate with internal teams to resolve aged balances.
  • Oversee daily accounting functions including payables, receivables, and payroll processing.
  • Maintain general ledger accuracy through timely transaction posting.
  • Assist in calculating and documenting indirect cost rates.
  • Review and process project-related expenditures.
  • Provide cross-functional support for general accounting tasks as needed.
  • Supervise and review work completed by junior accounting staff to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Work closely with senior finance leadership to enhance reporting, controls, and workflows.
  • Partner with project and operations teams to support financial planning and strategic decisions.
