Description The Staff Accountant is essential to the Agency, managing daily accounting tasks, including recording transactions, reconciling accounts, and maintaining accurate records. This role involves creating financial reports that reflect the company's financial status and ensuring compliance with accounting standards to mitigate risks. The Staff Accountant’s input is particularly important during month-end closing, where accuracy and timeliness are crucial. Effective communication with other departments is necessary to accurately depict the Agency’s financial position. Requirements DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES Assist with month-end and year-end close processes Prepare bank deposits and accurately record payment transactions Prepare and analyze financial statements and supporting schedules Handle tasks related to accounts payable and receivable, including tracking invoices, processing payments, reconciling statements, and ensuring timely and accurate financial transactions. Manage in-house manual payment checks Ensure accuracy of financial data and identify discrepancies Support audits by preparing documentation and responding to requests Reconcile journal entries by verifying them against supporting documents, resolving discrepancies, and preparing adjustments for accurate month-end financial reporting. Prepare and send comprehensive monthly reports, detailing departmental performance statistics and project updates Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and procedures Process payroll timecards by verifying employee hours, resolving discrepancies, and managing salary batches to ensure accurate and timely payments Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and procedures Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field 1–4 years of accounting experience Knowledge of GAAP and basic accounting principles Experience with accounting software (Bill.Com. or similar) Proficiency in Microsoft Excel Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong attention to detail and accuracy Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities Analytical and problem-solving skills Strong organizational skills Effective written and verbal communication Ability to work independently and collaborate in a mission-driven environment Physical Demands The work involves normal physical activity associated with an office environment. Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs. Work Environment and Schedule The work involves normal physical activity associated with an office environment. The schedule will be regular business hours with some weekend and evening hours as necessary to meet job requirements.
