  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • CPA or progress toward obtaining preferred.
  • 2+ years of accounting and/or financial experience within a financial institution, preferably within a credit union or bank.
  • Equivalent work experience may be substituted for education requirement.
  • Attention to detail and advanced math skills.
  • Must possess the ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  • Ability to communicate with members and others at all levels of the Credit Union, in both written and verbal formats
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Candidates are required to submit to a background investigation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Frequently requires use of manual dexterity and repetitive motions, primarily with the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Must be able to occasionally lift and exert force of up to 20 pounds.

Responsibilities

ROLE OVERVIEW:

The Staff Accountant performs professional accounting duties in support of the overall financial health of the Credit Union. The Staff Accountant will post journal entries, reconcile accounts, identify and research outages, and perform other accounting functions. Works under minimal supervision and requires professionalism, discretion and confidentiality.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Represent the Credit Union in a courteous and professional manner while providing excellent service to both internal and external members.
  • Using General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), will be responsible for timely processing, reconciliation and researching postings to the accounting system and assigned clearing accounts. Ensures financial and accounting records adhere to sound accounting principles and practices.
  • Maintain financial records and ensures financial transactions are properly recorded.
  • Perform daily accounts payable activities through the entire cycle, including processing invoices, issuing payments and researching issues with vendors.
  • Prepare and post month-end closing activities (i.e., prepaids, accruals, investments, etc.)
  • Maintain records of fixed assets and prepaids, including posting acquisitions, depreciation and dispositions according to policy and conducting periodic inventories.
  • Assist with periodic regulatory reporting, including quarterly Call Reports.
  • Provide audit and exam support as assigned.
  • Provide accounting support for operations including researching and resolving frontline balancing discrepancies when unable to be resolved at the branch level.
  • Comply with BSA regulations when performing all job requirements and stay abreast of updates/requirements of BSA/AFAC/CIP through completion of training courses assigned.
  • Work on special projects and other duties as assigned.
