We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to join our Finance & Accounting team. The Staff Accountant will support the financial operations of Trump Winery and Albemarle Estate by maintaining accurate accounting records, assisting with month-end close processes, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policies. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment. The Staff Accountant will report to the Controller.
Position: Staff Accountant
Location: 20 Minutes south of Downtown Charlottesville, 15 minutes north of Scottsville
Hours: Full-time, on-site 40 hours per week, non-exempt, 5 days per week, M-F 8:30 - 4:30
Wage: $26/hr - $32/hr, depending on experience

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • 1–3 years of accounting experience preferred (internship or winery/hospitality experience a plus).
  • Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel required), Google Suite ( Docs, Sheets, Gmail, Calendar)
  • Knowledge of GAAP and standard accounting practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Responsibilities
  • Support all aspects of accounting: financial statements, general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, and tax compliance.
  • Collaborate weekly with the Accounting department.
  • Analyze financial data to identify discrepancies and apply solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal policies.
  • Prepare journal entries and maintain general ledger accounts; primarily revenue, tax, and operating expense accounts.
  • Verify and reconcile daily cash sales and gratuity receipts with system reports.
  • Review AR/ AP Aging reports for good standing vendor and customer relationships.
  • Accurately record and submit monthly donations payable.
  • Accurate recording of financial transactions through journal entries, ensuring proper classification and documentation; revenue from various sources, such as cash, credit card, and bank deposits.
  • Support managers with revenue or payroll related inquiries.
  • Assist with invoice approval; review and authorize invoices before payment.
  • Assist with month- end and year- end closing processes across companies.
  • Assist with audits by providing necessary documentation and support.
  • Review and submit bi-weekly payroll; primarily focused on gratuity for Albemarle Estate, Cidery and Winery Tasting Rooms.
  • Prepare and submit accurate monthly tax returns for Virginia sales, meals, and transient occupancy taxes.
  • Record sales and excise tax payments into accounting software on a weekly basis
  • Monitor expenses to adhere to budget and strategize with the Controller for opportunities.
