Updated: December 2025 Title: Staff Accountant  Staff Group: Finance Reports To: Director of Finance Location: Open* Job Category: PM1, full-time Hours/Week: 35   * Location is open in the continental United States. You should have easy access to a major airport due to the travel requirements of this position. New England and Mid-Atlantic preferred.  Purpose This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, administering accounts payable, capitalizing fixed assets and recording depreciation, preparing bank and other reconciliations, accounting for deferred gifts, and supporting audits. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, a deep understanding of accounting principles, and experience with financial systems and tools.  Principal Responsibilities 1. Financial Recordkeeping & Reporting  1. Prepare bank and other reconciliations  2. Manage fixed asset tracking and reporting, depreciation posting  3. Prepare and post general ledger (GL) entries for deferred gifts and other transactions  2.  Accounts Payable Management  1. Maintain vendor records to include W-9 forms and banking information.  2. Review and enter payment requests/invoices for payment  3. Issue weekly EFT payments and semi-monthly paper checks.  Prepare and upload Positive Pay files.  Respond to Positive Pay exceptions.  4. Record manual checks for payments issued directly through bank  5. Respond to questions/concerns from UUA staff and vendors regarding payments  6. Issue annual 1099 forms  7. Void checks and reissue as needed  3. Audit & Compliance  1. Works cooperatively with auditors  2. Respond to audit requests and provide necessary documentation  3. Interface with accounting software to ensure compliance and accuracy  4. Document and streamline accounting processes for efficiency  4. Performs other duties as requested by supervisor, the Executive Vice President, or the President. Qualifications This is an exempt position with a salary midpoint of $72,900. Compensation may vary based on factors such as experience, qualifications, and geographical location, with offers potentially ranging from 10-15% higher or lower than the midpoint. Note that qualifications may be met as a result of lived experience, volunteer work, professional experience, and/or formal or informal training. Requirements include: * Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance  * 5-7 years of experience in accounting or finance roles  * Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting  * Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions  * Experience with Blackbaud Financial NXT  * Excellent organizational and time management skills  * Strong attention to detail and accuracy  * Understanding of Accounting Software: Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT  * Knowledge with Banking Platforms: Eastern Bank System  * Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of applications, advanced in Excel  * Understanding of issues around anti-racism, anti-oppression, and multiculturalism  * Work or lived experience with BIPOC communities is of particular value  * Eagerness to work in an organization in which the dismantling of white supremacy is a high priority How to Apply People with disabilities, people of color, indigenous people, Hispanic/Latinx, and LGBTQ candidates are encouraged to apply.
