JOB SUMMARY:

The Weingart Center is seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to manage complex financial operations of a multi-entity organization that owns and operates interim housing, permanent supportive housing properties, and comprehensive supportive services. This role focuses on entity-level accounting, tax compliance, and regulatory reporting rather than day-to-day property operations.
The position requires expertise in multi-entity accounting structures, subsidiary financial management, and regulatory compliance across property ownership, management, and social services operations.

MINIMUM EDUCATION (OR SUBSTITUTE EXPERIENCE) REQUIRED:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

3 plus years’ experience in multi-entity real estate accounting or nonprofit multi-program operations.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

Familiarity with Sage Intacct financial software is strongly preferred. Strong understanding of parent company/subsidiary entity financials. Experience with fund accounting, restricted revenue, grant accounting, and compliance reporting. Knowledge of affordable housing programs is also preferred.

Responsibilities
  1. Establish and maintain separate records for each property-owning entity within the interim and permanent housing portfolio; manage inter-entity transactions.
  2. Prepare quarterly financial statements for individual property entities (required
    by lenders and investors) and consolidated statements across multiple entities.
    3 Handle entity-level accounting including tax returns, audit coordination, and
    property tax management; assist with tax return preparation and filings.
  3. Assist with processing & tracking funding sources including: The Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Program (LIHTC), Housing and Urban Development (HUD), The California Tax Credit Allocation Committee (TCAC),
    and local government contracts across interim & permanent housing programs.
  4. Coordinate with the property management company to receive property-level
    financial statements and incorporate into entity books.
  5. Collaborate on annual operating budgets for individual property entities, interim
    housing sites, services programs, and consolidated organizations.
  6. Monitor and report on restricted fund compliance and grant requirements across housing and services operations.
