JOB SUMMARY

HCA Healthcare is looking for an experienced and innovative Staff Data Modeler to lead the design and implementation of scalable, secure, and high-performance data products on Google Cloud. In this role, you will be at the forefront of transforming raw data into actionable insights by creating robust architectures that integrate seamlessly into our enterprise ecosystem.
The Staff Data Modeler will play a critical role in bridging the gap between business needs and technical solutions. You will work closely with Data Product Owners to understand product requirements, ensure alignment with business goals, and design solutions that meet operational and analytical needs.
This position requires a deep understanding of the architecture of business data source systems, their structures, communication protocols, and interfaces. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a mastery of data analysis, logical data modeling, and the ability to identify opportunities for data reuse and transformation. You will design data architectures that address gaps, optimize performance, and enforce enterprise standards in cybersecurity, governance, and compliance.
As a key contributor to HCA’s data strategy, you will also develop and maintain a comprehensive data architecture roadmap, ensuring alignment with business priorities and evolving technology trends. By integrating advanced analytics and machine learning capabilities, you will help HCA Healthcare maximize the value of its data to improve clinical outcomes and operational efficiency.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU WILL NEED:

  • Bachelor’s degree Computer Science or a related field required
  • Master’s degree Computer Science or a related field preferred
  • 7+ years of experience in data management, data products, or analytics required
  • Extensive experience in designing data models for large-scale systems
  • Expertise in GCP architecture and BigQuery
  • Expertise in SQL optimization and data modeling techniques
  • Ability to write, tune, and interpret SQL queries.
  • Strong experience with version control systems
  • Strong ability to present complex technical concepts to leadership
  • Extensive experience in architecture, construction, and implementation of data-intensive solutions
  • Strong understanding of metadata management and data cataloging
  • Adeptness to learn new assignments, technologies and applications quickly and manage multiple assignments simultaneously
  • Ability to troubleshoot, maintain, reverse engineer and optimize existing ETL pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience with Python, Dataflow and Cloud Composer
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex data, and offer solutions to complex clinical problems.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to explain complex technical issues in a way that non-technical people may understand.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Knowledge of IT governance and operations.

Work Location/Schedule:

  • Nashville, TN area (near Centennial Park)
  • Hybrid: 2 days a week onsite

  • Evaluate and recommend new data modeling tools and technologies
  • Optimize cloud data structures for performance and scalability.
  • Translate project-specific requirements into a cloud structure that meets those requirements, as well as taking into account the project’s resource use and scalability requirements.
  • Assess and identify gaps in data architecture, systems, and workflows.
  • Optimize data models for performance.
  • Establish guidelines for schema evolution and data interoperability
  • Recommend and implement changes to improve data quality, accessibility, and consistency.
  • Design schemas and structures for data products that are robust, scalable, and secure.
  • Integrate data products with business systems, workflows, and analytical tools.
  • Ensure data products are optimized for machine learning, real-time analytics, and other advanced use cases.
  • Work closely with individuals across the technology organizations to help promote awareness of the data architecture and ensure that enterprise assets of competence are leveraged.
  • Identify the best cloud architecture options to help the firm accomplish its strategic goals.
  • Good understanding of cloud computing concepts
  • Maintain and enforce enterprise data architecture guidelines, including data governance, cybersecurity, metadata management, and auditability.
