Description Working under the supervision of the Clinical Director, the Attending Dentist provides professional, high quality dental diagnosis, treatment and education to a broad range of patients, including children, adolescents and adults. Representative Duties: Provides hands-on dental care in a variety of settings while achieving the highest levels of quality, efficiency, accessibility and responsiveness Maintains full appointment schedule for office practice Meets patients’ dental needs as they arise, by providing a full range of general dental services within the dentist’s defined scope of training Adheres to the highest standard of dental practices, ethics and professionalism at all times Utilizes state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment techniques and delegates and refers care as appropriate Maintains necessary credentialing, licensure and continuing education requirements Develops and implements individualized dental care plans Directs and coordinates the patient care activities of dental technical and support staff as required, including organizing, prioritizing and scheduling work assignments Follows established departmental policies, procedures and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives and safety, environmental and/or infection control standards Supervises, directs, trains and educates dental residents to perform their duties when necessary to understand policies, procedures and protocols Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned Meets Agency Participatory Expectations Adheres to all agency and departmental policies and procedures Participates in quality assessment and improvement activities as requested Adheres to the highest principles of patient and client confidentiality Adheres to established safety policies, procedures and precautions; identifies potential or actual unsafe situations in the environment and takes measures to rectify the situation Attends all required meetings, in-services and professional trainings Maintains professional competence necessary to perform job responsibilities; maintains and provides agency with records of continuing education activities Serves on agency committees and in professional organizations when requested Performs other duties as required Requirements Licenses and Certifications DDS or DMD degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in general dentistry Current licensure in the state of Massachusetts Valid DEA license to prescribe narcotics Current CPR/AED certification Knowledge, Skill and Technical Qualities Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of modern dentistry and oral surgery, including the methods and procedures for the delivery of dental evaluations and the procedures for the prevention of dental disease Knowledge of current principles, diagnosis and treatment of dental conditions, as well as the ability to observe, assess and record symptoms, reactions and progress Effective verbal and written communication skills Knowledge of community-based dental environment Knowledge of ethical and legal standards for the delivery of dental care Knowledge of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aides and the ability to prescribe dosage and instruct patients in correct usage Ability to foster a cooperative work environment and be a team player Demonstrated ability to work respectfully and effectively with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, perspectives, and life experiences.
