MINIMUM SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • 7+ years of design experience.
  • Proficient in Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, and / or similar design tools.
  • Advanced Technical Skills

    • Expertise with design systems and codebases to maintain consistency across projects.
  • Proven experience designing graphics and UX for complex web applications or documentation platforms.
  • Proficiency in Research Methods


    • Ability to interpret user behavior data, analytics (e.g., Google Analytics, Tableau), and raw data into optimized designs.

    • Knowledge of A/B testing and how to use data to validate hypotheses.
    • Strategic Visioning


      • Experience in designing large-scale projects or enterprise-level products that require long-term thinking.

      • Ability to balance creative freedom with strategic priorities (e.g., aligning user experience with business objectives).
      • Collaboration and Communication


        • Strong interpersonal skills to work closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, engineers, developers, and content creators.

        • Ability to translate complex data or insights into clear, actionable design decisions.

            ABOUT THIS ROLE

            Okta is seeking a passionate Staff Documentation UX Designer to join our growing documentation team. This is a unique opportunity to shape the user experience of our documentation sites, ensuring Okta admins and developers can easily find, understand, and use the information they need to succeed with Okta. We’re looking for a collaborative and innovative individual who thrives on improving the usability and discoverability of complex technical content.
            In this role, you’ll be instrumental in bridging the gap between experience design and technical content, focusing on navigation and overall user experience of help.okta.com and developer.okta.com. You’ll work closely with technical writers, product managers, design, research, and support teams to identify user needs, design intuitive flows, and create engaging visual content that enhances the learning and problem-solving journey for our global audience.

            CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

            • Lead a holistic, human-centered approach to information design. Advocating for the user throughout the documentation lifecycle.
            • Create and maintain clear, comprehensive architecture diagrams and technical illustrations to support admin and developer documentation on help.okta.com and developer.okta.com.
            • Combine design and data by developing and iterating on wireframes, prototypes, and user flows to visualize and communicate design solutions that are both functional and delightful documentation experiences.
            • Find creative ways to continuously learn from customers and users by conducting user research, including usability testing, surveys, and interviews, to understand user behaviors, pain points, and needs related to their documentation experience.
            • Collaborate with technical writers to create UX best practices for images and content creation, ensuring consistency and clarity across all documentation deliverables.
            • Craft user-centered artifacts and end-to-end journeys to align teams contributing to documentation around the broader user experience strategy.
            • Partner with product and engineering teams to align documentation UX with the overall Okta product experience.
            • Analyze usage data and feedback to identify areas for improvement and measure the effectiveness of design changes on documentation platforms.
