This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Embedded Firmware Engineer based in Canada. This role offers the opportunity to lead the development of next-generation IoT and video-enabled connected devices in a highly innovative engineering environment. You will take ownership of embedded firmware architecture and contribute to shaping the performance and reliability of smart, cloud-connected products used at scale. The position involves close collaboration with hardware, cloud, mobile, and manufacturing teams to deliver end-to-end system integration. You will work on complex, high-performance embedded systems spanning real-time multimedia, networking, and wireless communication technologies. This is a senior technical leadership role where you will influence design decisions, drive optimization efforts, and mentor engineering talent. The environment is fast-paced, product-driven, and focused on delivering high-quality consumer technology experiences. \n Accountabilities: Lead the architecture, design, development, and delivery of embedded firmware for IoT and video streaming products. Drive end-to-end firmware development cycles, ensuring high performance, reliability, and on-time product delivery. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware, cloud, mobile, QA, and external manufacturing partners to ensure seamless system integration. Design, implement, debug, and optimize embedded software components such as device drivers, RTOS-based systems, communication protocols, and platform firmware. Evaluate and integrate hardware components including SoCs, image sensors, wireless modules, and chipsets into product platforms. Troubleshoot and resolve complex system-level issues across hardware, firmware, networking, and cloud layers. Provide technical leadership through architecture reviews, code reviews, mentoring, and engineering best practices. Requirements: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience. 10+ years of experience in embedded firmware development, ideally within IoT, consumer electronics, or video streaming systems. Strong expertise in Embedded C/C++ programming and real-time embedded systems. Hands-on experience with RTOS and Embedded Linux environments. Deep understanding of multimedia systems, including video/audio processing, compression, and streaming protocols (H.264/H.265). Strong knowledge of networking protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP/HTTPS, RTP, RTSP, SIP, and WebRTC. Experience with wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi, BLE, LTE, and familiarity with IoT architectures. Proven ability to debug complex embedded systems using hardware tools such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers. Experience optimizing firmware for performance, memory usage, power efficiency, and boot time. Strong leadership, communication, and mentoring skills in cross-functional engineering environments. Familiarity with version control systems such as Git and scripting languages (Python, Perl, or Lua) is an asset.
