We’re looking for a Staff Engineer Chapter Lead – Generative AI to shape the future of AI at CommSec. You’ll: Lead the delivery of high-impact GenAI systems that improve real customer and colleague experiences Set engineering standards for enterprise‑grade AI in one of Australia’s most trusted brands Grow and support people, creating a culture of inclusion, psychological safety, and technical ownership Build systems that last, with strong foundations in MLOps, evaluation, observability, and security What you’ll do Build and scale Generative AI Design, build, and operate production‑grade AI, GenAI, and Agentic AI systems Develop reusable frameworks and foundational capabilities for enterprise GenAI adoption Deliver Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG) and agentic workflows that integrate with existing platforms Apply machine learning, NLP, and advanced analytics to solve complex, real‑world problems Ensure quality, safety, and reliability Establish robust AI and LLM evaluation frameworks to ensure transparency and data‑driven decisions Embed strong MLOps practices across the full AI lifecycle Champion automation across development, testing, deployment, and cost optimisation Drive adoption of CI/CD, infrastructure as code, observability, and security best practices Participate in on‑call support as needed to keep systems running smoothly Lead people and culture Lead and support a close‑knit, growing group of engineers, helping them thrive technically and professionally Foster autonomy, trust, and constructive challenge in a psychologically safe environment Coach, mentor, and encourage continuous learning and peer collaboration Communicate clearly with senior leaders and stakeholders, balancing outcomes, risks, and trade‑offs What you bring You don’t need to tick every box — we value capability, curiosity, and willingness to learn. Technical strengths Strong Python experience across AI/ML and backend development Hands‑on experience with Generative AI and Agentic frameworks (e.g. LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, AutoGen) Production experience with RAG and vector databases (e.g. Pinecone, Weaviate) Solid grounding in ML engineering and MLOps Experience building APIs and integrating services Deep familiarity with AWS, Infrastructure as Code (CloudFormation or CDK), Docker, and Kubernetes Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins) Understanding of AI evaluation, monitoring, security, and governance How you work You enjoy leading through influence and example You communicate clearly with both technical and non‑technical audiences You care about building inclusive teams and high‑quality systems You balance pragmatism with long‑term engineering excellence Inclusion, flexibility, and support At CommBank, inclusion isn’t an initiative — it’s how we work.
