About the role:

We are looking for an experienced Staff Software Engineer, Checkout Platform (m/f/d) to play a leading role in designing and building Redcare Pharmacy’s future headless checkout platform. As one of the first key technical hires in this greenfield / 0-to-1 domain, you will have a high level of technical autonomy and the opportunity to shape its architecture and technical foundations from the ground up.

Embedded in the checkout team, you will contribute directly to implementation while influencing technical decisions beyond the team. The target architecture is not predetermined: you will help establish the APIs, domain boundaries and technical foundations for a secure and scalable platform that will sit at the heart of Redcare Pharmacy’s future agentic commerce capabilities.

About the tech stack:

You will work within a Java-based backend environment, combining hands-on engineering with system design and architectural leadership as the new Core Commerce Services domain takes shape.

While this is a remote position based in Germany, it may require occasional on-site collaboration at our offices in Berlin or Cologne, depending on business and team requirements.

Job Description

About your tasks:

  • Build and evolve the Core Commerce Services platform: Take a hands-on role in creating scalable, channel-independent checkout capabilities, from early technical discovery and design through implementation and production.
  • Shape the architecture: Define APIs, domain boundaries and integration patterns while making pragmatic decisions around scalability, reliability, security, observability and long-term maintainability.
  • Drive technical alignment: Work across Checkout, Payment and other dependent teams to align technical decisions and integration contracts while maintaining clear ownership boundaries.
  • Mentor and grow engineers: Develop others through pairing, design discussions, code reviews and technical feedback while helping raise engineering standards across the team.
  • Enable future commerce: Partner with Product to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions and establish the foundations for AI-powered assistants, agentic commerce and emerging channels.
