JOB DESCRIPTION

As a Staff Frontend Engineer , you’ll be a key technical leader, playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of the Zendesk AI Agents platform. We’re looking for an experienced engineer who not only excels at building exceptional user experiences but also has a passion for empowering and elevating the entire team. Your work will be critical in fundamentally changing how people work in customer service, and you’ll be instrumental in establishing/contributing to the technical foundation for our next generation of products.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

  • Architectural Leadership: You’ll be responsible for designing and driving the implementation of scalable, modular, and maintainable frontend architecture. This includes setting the standards for our codebase, from code-changes and testing to CI/CD and deployment, to ensure a solid and reliable foundation.
  • Mentorship and Team Enablement: As a senior leader, you’ll provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers, helping them grow their skills and careers. You’ll be a strong advocate for best practices, fostering a culture of technical excellence and a testing-first mindset across the team.
  • Strategic Planning: You’ll work closely with product managers, designers, and other technical leaders to define the long-term technical roadmap for the frontend. You’ll proactively identify opportunities for innovation, performance improvements, and reduced code complexity.
  • Hands-on Development: You will maintain and develop the Zendesk AI Agents platform using TypeScript, React, and other state-of-the-art libraries. You’ll build user-friendly applications that help our clients design conversations and automate workflows, all while leading by example with clean, well-tested code.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: You will be the go-to expert for frontend technology, collaborating with backend and wider technical teams to ensure seamless integration and a holistic approach to building new product features.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE

  • You are a highly experienced engineer with a deep understanding of frontend architecture and the Web Standards. You have a proven track record of designing and implementing complex, scalable frontend systems.
  • You have strong technical leadership skills and enjoy mentoring others. You are a natural teacher who loves to share knowledge, helping to build a more capable and confident engineering team.
  • You have a deep understanding of software engineering best practices and a commitment to quality. Writing tests is second nature to you, and you are skilled at promoting a strong testing culture.
  • You are an expert in TypeScript and React (or similar frameworks like Angular or Vue). You are proficient in identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks and have a strong understanding of how to build performant web applications.
  • You have a product-first mindset and take pride in delivering elegant, effective solutions to complex problems. You understand that great engineering serves the end-user.
  • Experience with micro-frontends, server-side rendering, and large-scale infrastructure is a significant plus.
  • You are a clear and proactive communicator with a high proficiency in English, and you are skilled at giving and receiving constructive feedback to drive growth for yourself and others.
