Description

Staff geologist tasks may include the following:

  • Planning, scheduling, conducting and/or coordination of field investigations.
  • Performing field geologic mapping, sampling and logging of exploratory borings and trenches, preparation of geologic maps, and drafting for geotechnical projects.
  • Performing background research, aerial photograph review and interpretation, compile pertinent data onto geologic maps.
  • Preparing complete geologic cross sections, geologic and groundwater interpretation and correlating between data points for use in engineering analysis.
  • Preparation of proposals, report writing, reviewing drawings, geotechnical reports, calculations, and maps.
  • Performing grading and construction observation and testing using a sandcone.
  • Performing shallow hand auger borings and collecting soil samples.

Requirements:

  • Education: B.S. in Geology required.
  • This position requires overtime hours on a project-to-project basis, and as requested by direct supervisor.
  • This position requires weekend work on a project-to-project basis, and as requested by direct supervisor.
  • This position requires lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • This position requires that OSHA 10 certificate is obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • This position requires employees to be generally available between the hours of 8 AM and 5 PM and hours may change based on project demand.
  • Ability to work independently or in close coordination with a team in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Ability to organize and adjust to changing priorities and assignments, strategically plan and coordinate multiple tasks in an efficient manner.
  • Must have own field vehicle, a valid driver’s license and willing to travel to job sites in Los Angeles County, Orange County, Riverside County, and San Bernardino County.
  • Strong communication and report writing skills.
  • Ability to obtain GIT license within 2 years of hire.
  • Computer skills in the use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe. Preferred to have experience with Google Earth, AutoCAD and ArcGIS.
