Description Department: Recreation Position Type: Part-time Regular (Maximum 29 hours per week) Job Posting Duration: Opens: Tuesday, October 14, 2025 Closes: Tuesday, November 11, 2025 @ 11:59 PM Job Summary The Staff II, Weight Room position is responsible for educating patrons and enforcing safety regulations in Basin Recreation’s Fieldhouse fitness areas. Minimum Qualifications 18 years of age or older. Have or obtain CPR and First Aid certifications within four (4) weeks of hire. The successful applicant must pass a required pre-employment background check and subsequent mandatory background checks in accordance with current District policy requirements. Preferred but not required: Experience working in customer service. Experience in the fitness field. Experience with athletic and weight training equipment. Essential Functions The following duties and responsibilities are intended to be representative of the work performed by the incumbent(s) in this position and are not all-inclusive. Maintain a clean and welcoming atmosphere for all facility users. Report safety and conduct issues to supervisory staff. Educate users and maintain public postings of regulations. Monitor for proper equipment usage and appropriate attire in fitness areas. Prepare and respond to first aid needs. Foster a safe environment for facility patrons, program participants, and staff. Document and report repair or maintenance needs regarding equipment and cleanliness. Understand the needs of participants and adapt accordingly. Maintain a strong knowledge of daily activities such as classes and facility schedules. Encourage respect for other participants, personal property, and equipment. Communicate politely and effectively with staff and users. Maintain a safe and positive atmosphere. Requirements Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Knowledge of: Principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. Proper fitness and safety techniques. Facility equipment and its intended use. Skill and Ability to: Exhibit good leadership qualities, sound judgment, and integrity; accept guidance willingly. Work with the public in a fast-paced and challenging environment. Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Manage difficult situations when needed, such as injury, illness, and disruption. Learn new activities and tasks; accept and adapt to change. Working Conditions and Aptitudes Duties primarily performed in a public setting, requiring constant interaction with a variety of people. Manual dexterity and coordination; high degree of mental and visual alertness. Work effectively with crowds and uncooperative individuals, difficult situations, emergencies, or periods of continuous demand. Work a variety of shifts including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays depending on department needs. This position is ineligible for remote work. Essential duties cannot be completed without being physically present. Physical Requirements Equal or less than 25% | Focus on a computer screen. Equal or less than 25% | Sitting. Equal or less than 75% | Standing, walking, bending, and other physical exertion. Equal or less than 50% | Pushing, pulling, and kneeling. Equal or less than 100% | Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted.
