JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Staff Interaction Designer plays a key role in shaping innovative digital interface platforms for medical devices and systems by collaborating with Marketing, R&D, and cross-functional teams. As part of the User Experience Design (UXD) team, they apply user research, technical design, and critical thinking to create end-to-end user experiences that balance user needs, business goals, and technological constraints across a range of projects—from cloud software to embedded device interfaces. This position requires strong collaboration, communication, mentoring, and leadership skills, along with the ability to influence and evangelize user experience within the organization. Additionally, the role involves managing project timelines, personnel, and strategic trade-offs while contributing to the development of UXD talent and fostering innovation within the MMS business unit.

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Staff Interaction Designer collaborates with Marketing and R&D team members, applying user research methodologies and technical design skills to generate insights and concepts that lead to the development of digital interface product platforms for innovative medical devices and systems. As a member of the User Experience Design (UXD) team, the Staff Interaction Designer will work with multi-disciplinary teams to apply critical thinking to short- and long-term design directions and will deliver innovative, end-to-end user experiences that optimise user needs, business goals, and technological realities for each project. Projects will include cloud-based software, knowledge portals, embedded medical device software, hardware, and medical disposables.
This highly collaborative position requires high professionalism, communication skills, mentoring capability, and influencing skills to work effectively with cross-functional internal collaborators. The ability to evangelise user experience work and to affect leadership is crucial. On the tactical level, the Staff Interaction Designer will maintain deliverable schedules, track personnel assignments, and drive trade-offs as needed for all Next Generation design work streams. Soft skills that create successful employee-manager relationships are necessary. Growing and mentoring UXD talent to enhance organisational strength is an essential and rewarding aspect of this role.
The User Interaction Design function is part of the User Experience Design Team (UXD) within the MMS Business unit. The goal of the UXD Team is to stimulate and lead concept and technology innovation spanning multiple product platforms, including Dispensing Technologies and Infusion Systems.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Drive and apply user-centred, efficient design processes while working collaboratively with cross-functional teams on multiple matrixed work streams.
  • Clearly manage, track, negotiate trade-offs, and report out success UX metrics for all the projects you oversee.
  • Implement regular 1-1s, design review meetings, and demonstrations for the internal and external teams involved in your projects.
  • Create close professional relationships with key cross-functional leaders to understand where the business unit is going so that we can prepare our team (hire, train, etc.) adequately to support future needs.
  • Guide developers and collaborators in using user experience methods effectively, including corporate design language, design frameworks, and design principles
  • Ability to deliver and manage the creation and delivery of UI specifications, wireframes, workflows, and low- and high-fidelity Axure prototypes, and other relevant outputs
  • Build positive, collaborative relationships across teams/groups/functions through facilitative leadership, storytelling, teaching, mentoring, and inspiring colleagues to value UX work and to include UX early in every project
