Description

Atomic Machines is ushering in a new era in micromanufacturing with its Matter Compiler (MC) technology. The MC enables new classes of micromachines to be designed and built by offering manufacturing processes and a materials library that is inaccessible to semiconductor manufacturing methods. The MC promises to unlock MEMS manufacturing both for the many device classes that never could be made by semiconductor methods but also to open up entirely new classes. Furthermore, the MC is fully digital in the way 3D printing is digital, but where 3D printing produces parts of a single material using a single process, the MC is a multi-process, multi-material technology: bits and raw materials go in and complete, functional micromachines come out. The Atomic Machines team has also created an exciting first device – one that was only made possible by the existence of the Matter Compiler – that we will be unveiling to the world soon.
Our offices are in Emeryville and Santa Clara, California.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced and innovative Senior to Staff Manufacturing Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in driving operational excellence in medium to high-volume manufacturing environments by optimizing processes, enhancing equipment performance, and spearheading the design, development, and implementation of cutting-edge manufacturing equipment.
The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in continuous improvement methodologies and a proven track record of managing complex engineering projects from concept through implementation. As a key contributor to our manufacturing operations, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the seamless integration of new equipment and processes into the production line while maintaining the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and safety. Your ability to lead initiatives that enhance productivity and reduce costs will be instrumental in achieving our operational goals.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Take full ownership of the performance and maintenance of manufacturing equipment, ensuring optimal functionality and reliability.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
  • Monitor equipment performance metrics, analyze data, and identify trends to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead efforts to upgrade equipment to align with evolving production requirements.
  • Analyze existing manufacturing processes to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and areas for improvement.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve production efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance product quality.
  • Conduct time studies, root cause analyses, and risk assessments to support process improvements and troubleshooting.
  • Design, prototype, and build custom automated equipment tailored to specific manufacturing needs.
  • Integrate sensors, robotics, and control systems to create fully automated solutions.
  • Develop detailed engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications for equipment design.
  • Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of new equipment on the production floor.
  • Collaborate with device design teams and process equipment/platform design teams to ensure seamless integration of automated systems with existing manufacturing operations.
  • Collaborate with software and hardware engineers to integrate automated equipment with existing systems.
  • Manage projects from conception to completion, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, quality assurance, and production.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including SOPs, maintenance manuals, and training materials.
