Description:
SECTION 1- MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: PROFESSIONAL / CLINICAL: 1. Actively promote best practice, ensuring all care is evidence based. 2. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate clinical care of critically ill patients within the sphere of responsibility.
3. Professionally responsible for adherence to Trust policies and procedures 4. Participate in audits of practice, research and clinical effectiveness in accordance with the Divisional audit plan. Participate and contribute to developments within the critical care areas.
5. Participate in practice developments 6. Medicines Management assist in maintaining custody of controlled drugs and checking and witnessing of administration of drugs according to approved procedure, guidelines and protocol. 7.
Carry out nursing procedures and treatments in accordance with approved procedures 8. Participate in the teaching and supervising of Student Nurses, Nursing Auxiliaries, Clinical Support Workers and Health Care assistants under the direction of the Team Leader. 9. Maintain accurate and contemporaneous records and ensure records are clear, concise and legible.
10. Actively assess and manage risk within the clinical area in accordance with Health and Safety. 11. Develop the skills and knowledge necessary to prevent and control infection.
12. Works as both a team member and without direct supervision where appropriate. 13. Show commitment to personal education and professional development, to promote a culture of life- long learning.
ADMINISTRATIVE / MANAGERIAL: 1. Legislation and risk management policy. 2. Responsible for the safe handling and storage of patients valuables.
3. Ensure admission, transfer and discharge policies adhere to Trust/Unit/Network policies. 4. Support clinical governance systems and ensure care is delivered appropriately.
5. Provide support for new members of staff as part of their induction 6. Assist in the ordering of supplies when necessary, and use resources effectively HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT: 1. Allocation of junior staff duties on the ward as appropriate 2.
Participate in clinical supervision of junior staff 3. Participate in training and development of student nurses and other staff as appropriate, and provide support to all members of Multidisciplinary Team. 4. Ensure effective and efficient communication of information of a complex nature is given sensitively and confidentiality is maintained at all times.
With all disciplines.Communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team and all other agencies as appropriate. 5. Safeguard the health, safety and welfare of staff, patients and visitors.SECTION2- KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS 1. To develop/possess the expertise, clinical knowledge and skills appropriate to the area of work and actively participate in training programmes throughout Critical Care.
2. Responsive to patients needs including those with special needs and/or learning disabilities. 3. Able to deal sensitively with critically ill patients and their relatives.
4. Use professional judgement and initiative to promote safe practice. 5. Organise own time effectively and that of junior staff and learners 6.
Ensure accuracy when delivering treatments and/or procedures SECTION 3- EFFORT AND ENVIRONMENT 1. Partake frequently in tasks requiring physical effort for short periods 2. Deal with bodily fluids on an hourly basis 3. Frequently manage and participate in distressing situations for example death of patient, organ donation.
4. Concentrate for long periods and respond to unpredictable patient and staff demands. 5. Maintain contemporaneous patient records at all time
