Description

Short stay surgery (SSS) is a elective surgical ward focusing on elective surgical care. We are looking for an enthusiastic band 5 who is interested in working in an exciting area providing a high level of specialist care.
The elective unit focuses on patients from the different specialities such as general surgery, gynaecology, Ears and Nose, Urology, Breast, Upper GI You will have the opportunity to gain a great understanding in the care of the elective patient. Key areas will include pre and post-operative care, post-operative pain management and establishing working relationships with the multidisciplinary team.
SSS is a great place to learn the different speciality as the unit features a completely specific patient dynamic. Because of this, you will build great working relationships within the various teams.
We also care for General Surgical such as Emergency surgical patients at times.
We are providing an excellent opportunity to develop assessment and prioritisation skills. We offer excellent support to new members of the team, with a dedicated practice development facilitator to enable you to develop your surgical knowledge and skills.
A full induction to the ward will be given and ongoing personal development will be planned through the appraisal system and with the Practice Development Team.
To implement and be responsible for maintaining high standards of patient care.
To act in accordance with policies and nursing procedures as per Trust policy.
To co-ordinate the team/ward in absence of the team leader or ward manager.
To ensure confidentiality of patient records and high standards of nursing documentation.
To be aware of the complaints procedure and be able to apply it as needed.
To escalate as appropriate any untoward incidents, complaints and ward/staff issues.
To participate in ongoing clinical supervision.
