Candidates Must:
(a) Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:
(i) Be registered, or be eligible for registration, in the General Nurse Division of the Register of Nurses kept by the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland [NMBI] (Bord Altranais agus Cnaimhseachais na hEireann).
And
(b) Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability, (including a high standard of clinical and administrative capacity), for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.

PURPOSE OF POST

To provide holistic support to service users living in Peamount Healthcare

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES

It is the responsibility of all staff to:
Participate and cooperate with legislative and regulatory requirements with regard to Quality, Risk and Safety.
Participate and cooperate with external agencies on safety initiatives as required.
Participate and cooperate with internal and external evaluations of hospital structures, services and processes as required, including but not limited to:
O National Standards for Safer Better Healthcare.
O National Standards for the Prevention and Control of Healthcare Associated Infections.
O HSE Standards and Recommended Practices for Healthcare Records Management
O Safety audits and other audits specified by the HSE or other regulatory authorities.
To initiate, support and implement quality improvement initiatives in their area which are in keeping with the hospitals continuous quality improvement programme.
It is the responsibility of all managers to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for Quality, Safety and Risk within their area/department
Specific Responsibility for Best Practice in Hygiene
Hygiene in healthcare is defined as “the practice that serves to keep people and the environment clean and prevent infection. It involves preserving one’s health, preventing the spread of disease and recognizing, evaluating and controlling health hazards.”
It is the responsibility of all staff to ensure compliance with hospital hygiene standards, guidelines and practices.

Department heads/ managers have overall responsibility for best practice in hygiene in their area.
It is mandatory to complete hand hygiene training every 2-years and sharps awareness workshops yearly.
Mandatory Training
It is employee’s responsibility to ensure that all mandatory training is up to date and completed. This includes online education which should be completed on HSEland.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • To co-operate and share responsibilities for the continuing care needs of the Service users, as they occur.
  • Will assume a supervisory role in the absence of the CNM, to deputise and assist in administration duties and the day to day operation of the service, as required.
  • Is involved in the referral of Service users to members of the Multi Disciplinary Team/GP/Primary Health Care Teams, follows up with the preparation and formatting and attendance at MDT meetings.
  • To liaise with all other outside agencies of which the Service users are linked to.
  • To attend all hospital and GP appt. which require a nursing input.
  • Overall medication management, involving ordering and checking of stock, administrating of injections etc. when required.
  • The establishment and maintenance of a welcoming and supportive environment within the location, where Service-users are offered the opportunity to develop and enhance their quality of life.
  • To ensure that all requirements regarding Health & Safety at work and Fire Prevention are implemented.
  • To participate when required in further training and development.
  • To act as a mentor to Student Nurses on placements. To be actively involved in the induction of new staff to the area.
  • To ensure that all Service policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • In collaboration with the other staff to implement Service users individual personal outcome measures (POMS), through the development, implementing and reviewing of programmes which meet the identified needs.
  • To carry out any duties necessary to ensure the hygiene comfort and care of the Service user as required. These duties may include personal care and must be performed in such a way as to ensure the dignity and privacy of the Service-user.
  • To work with all other staff to assist Service users to develop skills in self care, home skills, community skills, interpersonal skills and leisure skills.
  • To work with all other staff in organising and participating in appropriate social and recreational activities for Service users attending the day service, supportive and independent employment, including activities in the evenings and at weekend holidays.
  • To ensure that all information relating to Service users, their families and staff is treated in a thoroughly professional manner, and that confidentiality is strictly maintained.
  • To ensure that the records are maintained to a high standard and in accordance with the principles of confidentiality, data protection, legislation, and Freedom of Information.
  • An employee must have access to and use of a car as part of this role. May be requested to work on campus or off campus as part of the community nursing team.
