The Staff Nurse in the Medicine / Cancer Unit 6W provides professional nursing care to all patients, including adult oncology patients and their families.  Utilizes knowledge of nursing process to assess, plan, intervene, evaluate and document care.  Formulates nursing diagnosis for treating actual or potential health problems, teaching, counseling and providing care.  Delegates appropriate tasks to assistive nursing personnel.  Displays professional practice as set forth in The Brooklyn Hospital Center’s standard of care, and the institution’s mission and goals. Qualifications * Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing * Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited colleges or universities – HIGHLY PREFERRED * New graduates accepted * One (1) year in acute care experience – HIGHLY PREFERRED * Current New York State Licensed Registered Professional Nurse * Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) * Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate from the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS)/Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) on hire or within one (1) year of hire * Completion of de-escalation training within 90 days of employment and every two years thereafter * Ability to apply knowledge – assessment * Ability to build interpersonal relationships – communication * Ability to provide people-centered care * Ability to collaborate with other professionals * Ability to assess and reassess patients admitted to Medical / Surgical Unit * Ability to perform assigned point of care testing (ex. Glucometer) * Computer application skills – ALLSCRIPTS and Microsoft Excel. * Excellent written and communication skills.
