ABOUT OUR GROUP:

The CTO Office PMO (Program Management Office) manages projects for the Research & Product Development (R&PD) organization. R&PD includes strong and diverse global engineering talent that is focused on fulfilling Seagate’s product development strategy for cloud storage through the edge.

YOUR EXPERIENCE INCLUDES:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated experience effectively leading diverse teams and coordinating with subject matter experts
  • Basic knowledge of computer hardware, software, and network systems
  • Familiarity with common procurement systems and processes (e.g., SAP, Oracle)

You might also have:

  • Engineering or other technical degree
  • Program/ Project Management in engineering development – preferably related to hardware/software
  • Familiarity with Seagate products and technologies
  • Familiarity with Seagate development processes (TDP, Research Phase Gates, PLCP, DevOps)

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with R&D engineering staff to manage the development of future technologies, Proof of Concepts (PoCs) and initial Minimum Viable Products (MVPs)
  • Lead and coordinate cross-functional project teams, ensuring effective communication, collaboration, and alignment towards achieving project goals and milestones.
  • Employ program management best practices and be responsible for managing and/or consulting on multiple programs in parallel
  • Drive, track, and report program progress, challenges, and opportunities
  • Use your project management role to support a diverse range of technologies, including new data storage architectures, systems, and devices
  • Assist with procurement activities and build requests in support of early technology development projects.
  • Use common tools for project management, collaboration, and communication (e.g., M365 tools, SharePoint, Smartsheet, Jira, Lucid)
    The mission of the CTO Office PMO is to enable data-driven decision-making within the larger organization by ensuring that the right decisions are being made by the right people, at the right time, and with the right data. This means working with our partners and stakeholders within R&PD and in other business functions to support services and activities, including:

Technical program/project management for Seagate Research and Advanced Product Development

  • Project/Portfolio Management (PPM) for Seagate Research, External Research, HDD Advanced Technology Staging, Innovation Roadmap, and tools for Technology, Portfolio, and Resource Management
  • Efficiency improvements, including data/workflow automation, budget/spend tracking tools, and lean process improvements
  • Data analysis and visualization of complex, quantitative data as meaningful information, using tools like Alteryx and Tableau
  • Continuous improvement for the broader Seagate organization through leadership and participation in professional development groups like the Project Management (PM) Community of Practice (CoP), the Smartsheet Users Group, SharePoint coaching, and Lean/Agile mentorship
  • Support of R&PD innovation through event coordination and communications for Tech Review, the R&PD/Gartner partnership, the Seagate Research Ops Forum, and External Research Ops Reviews
  • Support for Open Source & Inner Source, providing cross-functional coordination, process workflows, communications, and community-building

As part of our PM practice, we follow the Seagate-defined process for managing Technology Development Projects (TDPs), the Seagate Research Phase Gate Process, and Program Life Cycle Process (PLCP), utilizing best practices from PMI, Lean, and the Scaled Agile Framework.
