The UCSF AIDS and Cancer Specimen Resource (ACSR) is the only wet laboratory/biospecimen repository component of the UCSF Hematology-Oncology Division at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG), a division of the Department of Medicine.
The UCSF AIDS and Cancer Specimen Resource (ACSR) Regional Biospecimen Repository (RBR) was established by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) to encourage and facilitate research on HIV and associated diseases in persons living with HIV (PLWH). It is the country’s leading resource for well annotated tissue and biological human samples to support investigators conducting HIV-related research including cancer, virology, immunology, pathology, epidemiology, tumor biology, and assay development. The UCSF-ACSR RBR is a repository for human materials from a wide spectrum of diseases, and conditions in PLWH, including cancer. In addition to operating a large biospecimen repository, the ACSR, upon request, will search for and acquire specimens not currently in its inventory to meet the needs of approved investigations. In addition to UCSF, ACSR sites include George Washington University, Moffitt Cancer Center, University of Arizona, Stellenbosch University, and the University of Sāo Paulo.
Under the supervision of the Lab Manager and Senior Staff Research Associate, the Staff Research Associate I (SRA I) will be responsible for maintaining and managing inventory of specimens/collections housed in the UCSF RBR including the specimens stored at room & ultralow temperature condition, as well as for entry of specimen and patient-related data into established ACSR databases. The SRA I will be expected to maintain accurate specimen inventory and mapping during re-inventory processes and to keep electronic records up to date for inventory- and annotation- files and databases. The incumbent will also be required to receive, handle, process, store, and maintain inventory for biological specimens from special specimen collections donated to the ACSR. The SRA 1 also requires experience with handling ultra-low temperature specimens and equipment. Experience with biobanking/biorepository related databases, REDCap and Freezerworks LIMS is desirable. The SRA I will work with the RBR PI to fulfill specimen requests made to the ACSR by investigators throughout the world. The incumbent will also interface with the ZSFG Pathology Department and collaborating clinicians related to prospective sample collection and gather relevant clinical data on acquired specimens. The SRA I will be responsible for accurately entering, maintaining and searching specimen data in the UCSF ACSR’s REDCap database and Freezerworks LIMS. The incumbent will be expected to respond to freezer alerts, as appropriate, and assist with special projects, attend weekly lab meetings, and perform other duties as assigned. The incumbent must have the ability to travel to different worksite/facilities and handle freezer racks of up to 40-50 pounds.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
