Description

This is a 12-month limited position.
The SRA will collaborate with the supervisor on research projects, contribute innovative ideas, and perform both basic laboratory techniques and specialized procedures for lipoprotein analysis.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $30.89 - $49.68 (Hourly Rate).

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in the United States, and its origins can often be traced back to childhood. Dr. Ronald M. Krauss’s research program is dedicated to understanding how to best prevent CVD through early detection and management of its major risk factors, particularly elevated levels of blood cholesterol and lipoproteins. A key ongoing activity of the laboratory has been the development and implementation of methodologies for analyzing multiple functionally and biochemically distinct lipoprotein particle subspecies.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA/BS with a degree in a related science and two or more years of recent, directly related work experience, utilizing the techniques or methods required by the position and demonstrating technical expertise in these areas; and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Prior experience working with biological samples.
  • Experience working with human biological samples.
  • Knowledge of scientific equipment (centrifuge, ion mobilty system,pipettes, ultra-low freezers).
  • Strong computer skills including the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Flexible schedule – ability to work evenings and weekends is occasionally necessary.
  • Meticulous record keeping abilities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Generally experienced in the described job duties and in the principles and practices associated with those duties with an understanding of the underlying scientific principles.
  • Ability to draft routine reports and keep accurate records of work performed.
  • Actively seeks opportunities to increase skills and expertise.
  • Able to learn complex tasks with general instruction. Able to use experience to perform a variety of new techniques.
  • Familiar with statistical software packages including the R statistical environment.
  • Have experience generating tables and figures from complex data.
