The Sweet-Cordero laboratory is on the Mission Bay campus of UCSF. The laboratory focuses on molecular biology of cancer, with a particular focus on pediatric sarcomas and lung cancer. We are seeking a research assistant to work on design and execution of experiments involving molecular biology, tissue culture and in vivo analysis using mouse models and human samples . Work will involve tissue culture, wet lab assays (western blotting, immunofluorescence, PCR), as well as in vivo studies employing small animals (mice) – giving investigational treatments, performing imaging, and dissection. Some prior experience with mouse work is preferred, and a general willingness to work with live small animals (mice) is required. Attention to detail is also crucial as these are time sensitive and complex experiments. The lab environment is vibrant and interactive and includes 8-12 trainees and the position will also involve general support of lab operations as well as collaboration with postdocs and graduate students.
Staff research assistant will be supervised directly by the PI of the lab (Dr Sweet-Cordero) and a senior staff scientist. Opportunities for exploration of clinical patient care (shadowing, attending tumor boards, discussing clinical cases with direct research applications) may be available. This job posting is well-suited for an individual with a background in laboratory research with interested in pursuing a career in medicine or graduate work in the biological sciences.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $28.04 - $45.09 (Hourly Rate).
