This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Staff Software Engineer, Backend in the United States. In this role, you will design and implement backend systems that power scalable, high-performance applications, enabling integration with AI agents, distributed data platforms, and complex partner systems. You will work collaboratively across teams, mentoring engineers while driving architecture, infrastructure, and API development. The position requires balancing rapid feature delivery with platform stability and scalability, turning abstract designs into actionable technical solutions. You will directly contribute to building robust systems that support both internal operations and external partners, while fostering a culture of engineering excellence and innovation. This is a hands-on role with significant impact on product architecture, team development, and technical strategy. Accountabilities: · Design, build, and maintain scalable RESTful APIs, GraphQL endpoints, and event-driven systems to support complex integrations and AI/ML applications. · Implement containerized and orchestrated backend solutions using Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, and cloud platforms (AWS). · Develop and optimize database architectures across multiple platforms including PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis. · Build automated API lifecycle tools, monitoring dashboards, and robust error-handling systems. · Collaborate with product managers, designers, engineers, and external partners to translate requirements into high-quality software solutions. · Mentor and guide engineering team members on best practices, architecture patterns, and coding standards. · Participate in customer and partner technical engagements as a subject matter expert for backend systems. · 10+ years of professional software development experience with a strong backend focus. · Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. · Proficiency in Java and/or Kotlin and extensive experience with Spring Boot/Spring frameworks. · Experience designing and building APIs (REST, GraphQL), event-driven architectures, microservices, and distributed systems. · Expertise with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, EKS) and infrastructure as code (Terraform). · Strong cloud deployment experience (AWS PaaS/IaaS) and integration with AI/ML workflows. · Knowledge of API security patterns including OAuth 2.0, OIDC, API keys, and rate limiting. · Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, GitOps practices, and automated testing processes. · Preferred: experience in fast-moving startups, frontend technologies (React, Three.js), aerospace or simulation technologies, and prior TS/SCI clearance. · Competitive compensation: $135,000 – $235,000 annually. · Opportunities for career growth and technical mentorship. · Remote-first work environment with limited travel (up to 10%). · Comprehensive healthcare coverage (medical, dental, vision). · Retirement plan options. · Paid leave and flexible time-off policies. · Equity participation and inclusive workplace culture.
