Impact & Contribution: The CBA technology unit delivers the best digital banking services to Commonwealth Bank customers and to do so is responsible for digital delivery, group data and analytics, technology and technology infrastructure, cyber, fraud, physical security and business resilience for all divisions across CBA. As a Staff Software Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the technical evolution of our systems contributing to design, development and deployment of our systems to CBA’s Merchants. You’ll work across the full software development lifecycle (SDLC) and be invited to our regular engineering guilds to broaden your expertise and contribute to the engineering culture at CBA. Roles & Responsibilities: Proactively drive process improvements and deliver quality software solutions independently. Provide technical governance and guidance across the solution delivery lifecycle. Champion modern coding practices and foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and openness. Passionate about learning new tools and technologies. Ensure technical solutions are sustainable using approved frameworks and industry best practices. Guide complex delivery planning to align with engineering strategy. Communicate and influence stakeholders to support sound technical decisions. Coach and mentor junior engineers to uplift development practices. Think creatively to solve complex technical challenges. Essential Skills: We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don’t expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these (or equivalents) will set you up for success in this team: 11-14 years of experience delivering Java solutions in complex enterprise environments, ideally within banking or financial services. Backend: strong hands-on experience with Java, SpringBoot Docker and Kubernetes experience. APIs: REST, SOAP, OpenAPI Specs Database: PostgreSQL, DyanmoDB (NoSQL) Cloud: AWS Mandatory DevOps, CI/CD and Full Cycle Engineering: CI/CD pipelines, GitHub Actions, Octopus. Leveraging IaC tools like Terraform or CloudFormation Observability: Experience with monitoring and observability tools like Prometheus/Grafana, Observe, AWS CloudWatch. Architecture: Sound knowledge of large-scale distributed systems, Microservices, and Rest API Integration. Solid grasp of best practices in application and system security, backed by demonstrated experience in overseeing multitenant environments and addressing associated security challenges. AI & Machine learning and LLM knowledge is desired. GenAI tools and Agents – Cline/Roo Code, Cursor, AWS Bedrock. Experience in BIAN architecture – desired Driving quality with modern automated testing. Promoting code quality through peer programming, code reviews, and automated release pipelines.
