MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 8+ years of professional software development experience, with at least 3 years in data infrastructure or distributed systems engineering.
  • 6+ years of experience in a systems programming language such as Go, Java, Rust, or C++.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Expertise in distributed systems, or graph-based database architectures.
  • Experience designing and optimizing data ingestion pipelines, streaming frameworks, or graph distribution layers.
  • Knowledge of cloud-native architectures (e.g., Kubernetes, Terraform, Helm) and cloud providers such as AWS or GCP.
  • Track record of contributions to open-source data infrastructure projects
  • Strong understanding of graph query languages and data modeling best practices.
  • Deep commitment to mentoring, technical leadership, and cultivating engineering excellence.
  • Passion for performance engineering, clean abstractions, and developer-centric design.

Responsibilities

ROLE OVERVIEW

We are seeking a Staff Software Development Engineer (SDE-V) to lead the architecture and development of our next-generation Data Platform. This role will focus on building and scaling the foundational systems that anchors ID.me’s evolving data architecture, powering secure, connected, and intelligent identity experiences.
As a Staff Software Development Engineer on the Data Platform team, you will drive the technical vision for how data is ingested, stored, indexed, and queried at scale. You will lead a team of talented engineers to architect, evolve, and optimize these platforms to ensure they can meet the demands of our rapidly growing business—all in a cloud-native environment. You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping ID.me’s approach to data infrastructure and intelligence services that power identity verification, analytics, and machine learning use cases.
This role is based out of our Mountain View, CA or McLean, VA offices and requires full-time in-office attendance.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Architect and evolve graph-based storage and indexing systems, supporting complex, connected data workloads.
  • Design and maintain cloud-native data infrastructure using containerized microservices, scalable orchestration frameworks, and modern data processing tools.
  • Guide and mentor engineers in developing concurrent systems, large-scale distributed architectures, and performance-critical data flows.
  • Establish robust data platform APIs and tools that simplify data discovery, access control, and developer experience.
  • Contribute to and champion participation in open-source data infrastructure projects, fostering a culture of community-driven innovation.
  • Ensure reliability, observability, and security compliance across data platform components in partnership with SRE, security, and compliance teams.
