Description
We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our Engineering Enablement team and lead initiatives that drive developer productivity across the organization. You will define and drive the evolution of our internal developer platform, services, and toolchains to enable scalable, high-velocity engineering. In this role, you will work across teams and domains to identify systemic bottlenecks, align stakeholders, and architect high-leverage solutions that improve engineering velocity, reliability, and developer experience. As a technical leader in the team, your impact will extend beyond individual features, shaping standards, workflows, and platform capabilities that support the delivery of autonomous vehicle software at scale. What You’ll Be Doing: Architect and lead the development of building scalable services, CI/CD pipelines, build systems, toolchains and platforms that can support developer workflows Drive initiatives with engineering teams throughout the company to understand their needs, identify pain-points and drive initiatives to improve their development workflows Lead the development of a unified Developer Productivity dashboard that integrates signals from across the company to surface industry-standard KPIs such as DORA and DX Core 4 Improve system reliability, performance, scalability, and observability across distributed systems by introducing new tools and/or building new features Monitor system performance and health, proactively identifying and resolving issues before they impact users Lead system architecture decisions and technical roadmaps What We Are Looking For: Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent knowledge and work experience 8+ years in Software Engineering or related roles with past 2 years in a tech lead position Strong background in modern programming languages (Python, Go, C++ are the ones we use) Experience with Unix-like environments, software, and toolchains. Knowledge of CI/CD tools (e.g. GitLab CI, Jenkins), cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, GCP) & infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation) Expertise in software development lifecycle including the ability to understand ambiguous goals and convert them into software requirements Strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment Bonus Points (not required, but a plus): Experience in the AV industry or robotics Deep expertise with monorepo software development tools and services (e.g. Bazel) Previously been on on-call roster to support P1 & P0 systems Experience with AI/LLM integration, specifically building/extending Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers to enhance developer productivity and system automation Motional is a driverless technology company making autonomous vehicles a safe, reliable, and accessible reality.
