Description
About Gridware Gridware is a San Francisco-based technology company dedicated to protecting and enhancing the electrical grid. We pioneered a groundbreaking new class of grid management called active grid response (AGR), focused on monitoring the electrical, physical, and environmental aspects of the grid that affect reliability and safety. Gridware’s advanced Active Grid Response platform uses high-precision sensors to detect potential issues early, enabling proactive maintenance and fault mitigation. This comprehensive approach helps improve safety, reduce outages, and ensure the grid operates efficiently. The company is backed by climate-tech and Silicon Valley investors. For more information, please visit www.Gridware.io. Role Description We’re seeking a Staff Software engineer who will serve as a technical force multiplier and elevate the entire software engineering organization through architectural excellence, mentorship, and establishing a culture of quality. You’ll design and build the core software systems that power Gridware’s platform, from backend services managing our distributed fleet of devices, to the front-end tools that visualize grid health, fleet diagnostics, and real-time events in the field. You’ll work across the stack to build and scale systems that connect hardware, firmware, and cloud infrastructure, enabling reliable communication, fleet visibility, and faster decision-making. This is a high-ownership, high-impact IC leadership role that gives you the opportunity to shape how our technology supports and protects critical infrastructure at scale. \n Responsibilities Design and develop full-stack systems in collaboration with data science, operations and firmware teams to analyze power grid events worldwide in real time, and enable command and control of our fleet of thousands of distributed sensors. Drive critical technical decisions on system design and own the technical vision for initiatives that will enable us to scale reliably and securely. Establish and champion engineering standards that raise the bar on code quality, testing, observability, performance and operational excellence. Identify and eliminate technical debt that impedes developer productivity or quality. Mentor engineers at all levels, helping them grow as developers. Required Skills 8+ years of experience as a software engineer with production systems across frontend and backend. Deep experience in designing and scaling distributed data-intensive systems, overcoming reliability and performance challenges. Proficiency in Python, TypeScript, React, GraphQLand PostgreSQL (or similar modern stack). Experience mentoring engineers and seeing them grow into senior technical roles. Passion for building products that combine software, sensors, and the physical world. Bonus Skills Experience developing real-time or event-driven systems (MQTT, WebSockets, gRPC, etc.). Familiarity with observability tools such as OpenTelemetry, Grafana, or Mimir. Background working in hardware–software ecosystems or IoT systems. Strong product sense and ability to translate complex technical concepts into usable tools. \n This describes the ideal candidate; many of us have picked up this expertise along the way. Even if you meet only part of this list, we encourage you to apply! Benefits Health, Dental & Vision (Gold and Platinum with some providers plans fully covered) Paid parental leave Alternating day off (every other Monday) “Off the Grid”, a two week per year paid break for all employees. Commuter allowance Company-paid training
