Staff Specialist – General Paediatrics Major Rural Referral Hospital | Regional NSW Permanent Full-Time or Part-Time We are partnering with a major rural referral hospital in regional New South Wales to recruit an experienced Staff Specialist in General Paediatrics to join a well-established, high-performing paediatric service. This is an outstanding opportunity to practice high-acuity, broad-scope paediatrics within one of the largest regional hospitals in NSW, while enjoying a genuine work–life balance and strong professional support. The Hospital This hospital is a 282-bed rural referral facility and is the largest healthcare provider in NSW outside the Sydney–Wollongong–Newcastle metropolitan area. It serves as the primary referral centre for a vast regional catchment across northern NSW and is a key training and specialist hub within its Local Health District. The Paediatric Service The Paediatric and Adolescent Inpatient Unit is the major referral service for the New England, North West and Upper Hunter regions. Key service highlights include: 18-bed Paediatric Unit Over 2,600 inpatient admissions annually Approximately 5,000 outpatient presentations per year Broad inpatient case mix including: General paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Oncology and Mental health Strong, experienced community allied health team delivering developmental assessments and specialty clinics The service is further supported by regular visiting subspecialty outreach clinics from a major tertiary children’s hospital, including: Paediatric Surgery Endocrinology Neurology Respiratory / Cystic Fibrosis Haematology–Oncology Immunology Cardiology Neonatal follow-up Rehabilitation and brain injury Out-of-home care Neonatal Services (Core Component of the Role) The hospital provides Level 3 Neonatal Services, supporting newborns delivered within a Level 4 maternity service. The paediatric team: Attends all high-risk deliveries Provides neonatal resuscitation, stabilisation and ongoing care for infants ≥32 weeks’ gestation or ≥1500 g Manages initial stabilisation of unexpectedly premature infants prior to NETS retrieval Works closely with NETS and a major tertiary children’s hospital The Special Care Nursery provides: Short-term CPAP, Phototherapy, Sepsis management, Glucose stabilisation, Feeding, growth and temperature regulation, Transition care for infants returning from tertiary units. Neonatal care represents more than 50% of the inpatient workload, making this a defining and rewarding component of the role. Candidates with general paediatrics and neonatal experience or interest are strongly encouraged to apply and will play a key role in ongoing service development.
